This Week at The Place

Our Daily Reading Plan has arrived! Follow along with the new sermon series on Hebrews by picking up your copy in the lobby this Sabbath.

Fellowship Luncheon
Our next fellowship luncheon is scheduled for Sabbath afternoon, January 15th. This month's hosts are Ken and April Fowler. Bring your favorite dish and bring some friends!
Following the luncheon we will have a meeting for all those interested in being part of a new Hospitality Ministry. This ministry will be aimed at visitors and new members of The Place. Those involved will be part of hospitality teams on Sabbath following church which will host lunches for visitors and others. If you are interested in being part of one of these teams, please come to the meeting, or call Vickie Lemasters at 805-526-4182.

Discipleship Training
Have you ever wanted to know what it means to be a Disciple of Jesus? Interested in new and interesting ways of serving our Lord? A Discipleship Training Series is the answer!
Beginning this month there will be a Discipleship Series at the Place. This program will meet DURING Sabbath school starting on January 22nd. Some of you have already made the commitment and signed up to attend these meetings. However, we would like to EVERYONE try and sign up to attend at least one of these meetings. Materials will include the Bible and the books, "Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, "The Life You've ALways Wanted" by John Ortberg, "Spiritual Leadership" by Henry Blackaby and "Christ's Way of Making Disciples" by Phillip Samaan. This program will meet on a weekly basis and is sure to be a blessing in your life. ALL NEW MEMBERS in particular are encouraged to become a part of this time together. There will be a sign up sheet in the church lobby.

Funeral Services
In case you have not heard, Mel St. John, husband to Judy and for many years a Sabbath School teacher and head elder of The Thousand Oaks church, died on Tuesday after sustaining injuries in a car accident on his way to work on Monday morning. Mel was greatly loved at the T.O. church and will be missed tremendously. Please pray that God's arms of support will be around Mel's family.
A viewing will be held for Mel on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary located at 101 E. Wilbur Road in Thousand Oaks, 805-495-4641. Mel's funeral service will be on Friday, January 7th at 2 p.m. at the Thousand Oaks SDA Church. Dan Smith, senior pastor at the La Sierra Univeristy Church will present the message.
His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Mel's name to either of two charitable organizations: Casa Pacifica at 1722 Lewis Road in Camarillo, Ca 93012 (Casa Pacifica cares for abandoned and abused children) or The South East Ventura County Y.M.C.A. located at 50 W. Hillcrest Suite 215, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360.

Tsunami Relief Effort
ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) continues offering aid to the victims of the tsunami that struck two weeks ago. On faith, ADRA has made an initial commitment of $500,000 from their emergency relief fund in response to this tragedy. However, ADRA needs help in order to continue to assist tsunami victims. Time is of the essence as the death toll is estimated at over 125,000 and rising daily. Many who were not killed have now been plagued by cholera and malaria.
For more detailed information of their relief efforts or to donate, please log on to www.adra.org or you may donate to ADRA at The Place by marking next to ADRA on your tithe envelope.
