This Week At The Place

Pastor Simon is back and will be preaching this Sabbath at The Place. Pastor Simon continues his series on relationships and his sermon is titled "Another Serving Please".

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Class. The group is currently reading the book The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg. This week the group will be going over chapter 9, focusing on the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Beach Vespers-This Friday Night

You are invited to come to our next beach vespers scheduled for this coming Friday night at 6:30 p.m. We will be meeting at Sycamore Cove. Please come so you can share food, experience an unforgettable sunset, and a blessed time of fellowship.

Directions: there are many ways; but you can take Las Posas west to PCH and south about 5 miles. The Cove is on the beach.

Local & Global Mission Projects

We thank you all for your support and prayers while a group of 30 volunteers were on a mission trip to Peru. As many of you know, many volunteers travelled to Peru 2 weeks ago to build a community center and school. This Sabbath there will be a brief slide show of the trip.

A last reminder that there will be another mission project this Sunday. This time, however, the project will be a local one of barn painting at 15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary. If you like horses or just helping children, then we would love your help in painting a barn at Ventura Farms in Hidden Valley on Sunday, August 14th. 15-Hands Rescue Sanctuary gives underpriveleged children an opportunity to ride and interact with horses. They need our help! We'll start painting around 8 am. and should be done by noon (or earlier if more people help!) For info or to reserve a spot, contact Alicia Adams at alicia@puconline.org or 805-573-0848.

Children's Church-This Sabbath

We will be having our next Children's Church this Sabbath, August 13th. Children's Church is held in the Fellowship Hall from 11:30-12:30 p.m. Children's Church is a time where tots learn about Christ through a Veggietales curriculum involving story, song, crafts, and games. This week's theme is on the Home and the leader will be Meaghan Quilop. If your child in five years of age or younger, we ask you to please stay with him or her as the class is full of fun activities in which he or she may need much guidance.

Food Drive-This Sabbath

This Sabbath we continue our monthly food drive. The food donations will continue to go to Ventura County Food Share. Food Share's mission is to "alleviate hunger in Ventura County". Food Share provides food to families, seniors and children. Today, one in five Ventura County children lives below the poverty line. Specific needs of Food Share are peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna and canned fruit. There will be a box in the lobby marked "Food Drive" where you may place your donations. These donations are a HUGE blessing to so many familes.....THANK YOU!!
If you, your family, or someone you know needs food assistance, please contact Pastor Simon.

Financial News for July, 2005

Once again, we appreciate your faithful giving to The Place. In July we received $6,643 towards our local church budget and $9,883 for tithe to our local church conference. That brings our total giving towards our local church budget to $51,248 for the year...and leaves us still around $10,000 behind our budget for the year so far. Our total tithe for the year is $84,248. Again, The Place is not about money. But, it is about being followers of God. We invite you to participate in the blessings our God has promised as we worship him by giving of the things He has provided for us. As a reminder, you may give at The Place or online at tithe.theplacechurch.com.

Fellowship Luncheon-Next Sabbath

We will be having our monthly Fellowship Luncheon next Sabbath, August 20th. We will be dining in the Fellowship Hall after services.

We invite you to stay, eat, and spend time with your friends.

We thank so many of you for faithfully bringing meals for Sabbath luncheons....please remember that this time is more than just eating together, it is a time of fellowshipping together.

The Place Picnic-Next Week

The Place will have its annual church picnic next Sunday, August 21st from 12-4 p.m. We will have a sign-up sheet at church this Sabbath and the next so that you may sign up to bring picnic items. We encourage you to sign up if you have not done so, as we need everyone's help to make this a special event! Our picnic will be at the same park it was held last year, Dos Vientos Park at the corner of Via Andrea & Lynn Road. There will be activities for children AND adults. We invite EVERYONE to come out and spend some time with friends as we enjoy the sun, games and good food. If you would like to bring something in particular, please contact Cecilia Liversidge at 818-676-0247.
