This Week At The Place

Pastor Simon will be preaching this Sabbath at The Place. Pastor Simon continues his series on relationships and his sermon is titled "Opening His Presence". We will also be showing a short video of our recent Maranatha Mission Project in Peru prior to the sermon.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Class. The group is currently reading the book The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg. This week the group will be going over chapter 10, focusing on humility.

Church Web Site

Just last month, we unveiled the redesign of The Place's website at www.theplacechurch.com. In July, our church's website had over 300 different visitors. We've continued to add features to the site, including:

An up-to-date church calendar with all our church events in one place;
Streaming audio of recent sermons and worship music for you to play while you work or burn to CD to play in your car;
An online archive of The Scoop dating back to January 2005, including the current issue;
An online prayer request form that sends your prayer requests by email to our prayer ministry team;
An automated subscription form for The Scoop secure online tithe and offering using your credit card;
An online search engine to help you find whatever you're looking for on our church's website;
An online Amazon store to make any online purchase that pays 4% of your purchases back to The Place.

Theplacechurch.com is your 24-7 resource for all things related to The Place. Many more features are to come. Visit our site. If you'd like to help with our web ministry, send an email to Jeremy Bachmann at jbachmann@theplacechurch.com.

Also, we now have PHOTOS posted on our web-site. But, if you have photos from church activities you would like included...please contact Jeremy.

And, if you are interested in photography and would be interested in managing this portion of our web-site, contact Jeremy.

Local & Global Mission Projects

This Sabbath we will be showing a brief video of the Maranatha trip recently taken to Peru by volunteers. And-thanks to those who helped with the barn painting at 15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary this past Sunday, it was a wonderful team effort.
Also, many thanks to those who donated to World Vision last week to help feed starving children in Niger, Africa.

If you are interested in participating and/or coordinating any other projects in our community or around the world, please contact Pastor Simon.

Small Groups

As the school year starts in a few weeks, we will be starting a new sermon series focused on the love of Jesus. This is a great time to begin a new small group. We are blessed to have so many small groups in our community. We presently have ten small groups meeting on a regular basis, including two new groups (one that meets on Friday nights in Newbury Park and one that meets in Glendale). If you are interested in joining an existing small group or would like to venture out and form a new group, please contact Simon.

Mom's Ministry

The mom's ministry meets on Wednesday afternoons and then one night a month for mothers only. This is such a blessing for so many mommies and children alike. If you have not experienced the fellowshipping that goes hand in hand with this ministry, we encourage you to give it a try-you WILL be blessed!

The rest of August's activities are:

August 24 - "Afternoon At The Park" Simi Valley Park (the water area we went to before!)

August 31 - Girls Night Out - Cheesecake Factory and a movie.
We hope you and your little one can make it to the activities planned, please contact Heather Richmund for any further information.

Financial News for July, 2005

Once again, we appreciate your faithful giving to The Place. In July we received $6,643 towards our local church budget and $9,883 for tithe to our local church conference. That brings our total giving towards our local church budget to $51,248 for the year...and leaves us still around $10,000 behind our budget for the year so far. Our total tithe for the year is $84,248. Again, The Place is not about money. But, it is about being followers of God. We invite you to participate in the blessings our God has promised as we worship him by giving of the things He has provided for us. As a reminder, you may give at The Place or online at tithe.theplacechurch.com.

Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath

We will be having our monthly Fellowship Luncheon THIS Sabbath, August 20th, in the Fellowship Hall after services. We invite you to stay, eat, and spend time with your friends.

We thank so many of you for faithfully bringing meals for Sabbath luncheons....please remember that this time is more than just eating together, it is a time of fellowshipping together.

The Place Picnic-THIS SUNDAY

The Place will have its annual church picnic THIS Sunday, August 21st from 12-4 p.m.

Our picnic will be held at the same park it was held last year, Dos Vientos Park at the corner of Via Andrea & Lynn Road. There will be activities for children AND adults. We invite EVERYONE to come out and spend some time with friends as we enjoy the sun, games and good food. Please bring your blankets and lawn chairs as there is limited bench seating. Directions to the park will be available this Sabbath in the lobby. Don't miss out on this FUN time!!!
