This Week At The Place

This Sabbath, Merv Kessler, Vice-Principal at NPAA will be preaching at The Place. He will be sharing about letters to God. And, we will have the opportunity this Sabbath to have some creative worship along with our always inspiring Praise Time as well!

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

But, there will be no discipleship group this Sabbath. We will meet again next week, September 3d and continue with chapter 11 of The Life You've Always Wanted by John Ortberg.

Church Web Site

Just last month, we unveiled the redesign of The Place's website at www.theplacechurch.com. In July, our church's website had over 300 different visitors. We've continued to add features to the site, including:

An up-to-date church calendar with all our church events in one place;
Streaming audio of recent sermons and worship music for you to play while you work or burn to CD to play in your car;
An online archive of The Scoop dating back to January 2005, including the current issue;
An online prayer request form that sends your prayer requests by email to our prayer ministry team;
An automated subscription form for The Scoop;
Secure online tithe and offering using your credit card;
An online search engine to help you find whatever you're looking for on our church's website; and
An online Amazon store to make any online purchase that pays 4% of your purchases back to The Place.

Theplacechurch.com is your 24-7 resource for all things related to The Place. Many more features are to come.

Also, we now have PHOTOS posted on our website, including from the church picnic last Sunday. But, if you have photos other from church activities you would like included...please contact Jeremy.

And, if you are interested in photography and would be interested in managing this portion of our web-site, or if you are interested in helping with any other portion of the website, we need you! Please contact Jeremy Bachmann at jbachmann@theplacechurch.com.

A Little Yarn and other Mission Projects

As a church we are always looking for ways to bless our community. One of our members, Rachelle Pullen Johnson has a ministry of making "CHEMO CAPS" for kids going through chemotherapy. Her own son had a 4 year battle with Leukemia and she has a heart for other kids like him. So, if you have YARN that you would be willing to donate, please contact Pastor Simon or Rachelle directly at rachelle@securedoffice.com. She uses the yarn to make the chemo caps. If you have an interest in supporting this ministry in any way, drop her an email!

In other mission news, we wanted to thank Kevin Emmerson and Ralph Figueroa for putting together our awesome video on the Peru Mission Trip. And, we are already looking forward to our next trip!

If you are interested in participating and/or coordinating any other projects in our community or around the world, please contact Pastor Simon.

Small Groups

As the school year starts, we will be starting a new sermon series focused on the love of Jesus in just a few weeks. This is a great time to begin a new small group or to join an existing one. We are blessed to have so many small groups in our community. We presently have ten small groups meeting on a regular basis, including two new groups (one that meets on Friday nights in Newbury Park and one that meets in Glendale). If you are interested in joining an existing small group or would like to venture out and form a new group, please contact Simon or check out some of the groups on the website.

Being part of a small group is an awesome way to get to know our God and the other parts of our church body. There is no substitute for community!

Mom's Ministry

The mom's ministry is once again preparing for the very popular mom's only (minus the kids!) monthly get together. The Girls Night Out is on Wednesday night, August 31st. It will consist of everything on the menu at the Cheesecake Factory and a movie.

We hope you and your little one can make it to the activities planned, please contact Heather Richmund at hrichmund@hotmail.com for any further information.

Student Aid and Money Matters

Yes, it is true...the school year is starting. For the past couple years we have been able to assist several families at The Place with financial aid to help their children attend our local SDA schools, Conejo Adventist Elementary School and Newbury Park Adventist Academy.

And, once again, we would like to be able to help families who would like some financial assistance for this current school year. But, you need to let us know how we can help. Starting this Sabbath, we will have applications for student financial assistance available in the lobby at The Place. If you would like to apply, pick one up and contact Pastor Simon or the chairman of our Finance Committee, Geoff Wolcott at gnwolcott@yahoo.com.

Also, as always, we appreciate your financial support at The Place!

As a reminder, you may give at The Place or online at tithe.theplacechurch.com.

Bike and Hike-Next Sabbath Afternoon

There will be a bike hile down Sycamore Canyon on Sabbath afternoon, September 3rd. The bike hike will begin at 4 p.m. Ralph Figueroa and Brandon Lew will be heading this trek on Labor Day weekend......bring your family out for an afternoon of fun!

Upcoming Events

There are several upcoming events we would like you to mark in your calendars. First, our next (and perhaps last) beach vespers is scheduled for Friday September 9th at 6;30 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Please come and share an evening of food and prayer under the stars.

And-our next social is planned for Sunday, September 18th. We will be having a beach day. We invite you to bring your blankets, beach balls, and food and hang out with friends as we enjoy a beautiful day of fellowship. More details to come.
