The Scoop on August 4th, 2005
This Week At The PlaceThis Sabbath Pastor Melvin Hayden will be preaching at The Place. Pastor Hayden is currently a pastor in the D.C. area.
Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.
This week the Discipleship group will not neet as many are still away on the mission trip. We continue to pray for all of the volunteers as they travel to Machu Pichu and for a safe return. The Discipleship class will resume next week at 10:30 a.m.
Baby Dedications
This Sabbath there will be baby dedications for twins Noah Addison and Zoe Elizabeth Watkins. Proud parents Maurice and Tamika Watkins will be dedicating their little one's lives to the Lord. Pastor Hayden will be dedicating the two and Charese Davis, Maurice's sister will be singing a special song titled "Masterpiece".
Beach Vespers
Next Friday, August 12th, we will be having our next beach vespers. As usual, we will be meeting at Sycamore Cove at 6:30 p.m. We will enjoy a beautiful sunset, eat, and pray together. We hope that you will come out and join us!
Mission Projects
We ask that you all continue to pray for Pastor Simon and the group of 30 that are currently in Peru on a mission trip. Most of the group will be traveling to Machu Pichu for an excursion and then return home early next week. We know that they have blessed SO many people with the building of a community center and church. We pray for a safe journey and stay and for a blessed time of fellowshipping.
Also, we want to remind all of you that there will be another mission project in August. This time, however, the project will be a local one of barn painting at 15 Hands Rescue Sanctuary. If you like horses or just helping kids, then we would love your help in painting a barn at Ventura Farms in Hidden Valley on Sunday, August 14th. 15-Hands Rescue Sanctuary gives underpriveleged kids an opportunity to ride and interact with horses. They need our help! We'll start painting around 8 am. and should be done by noon (or earlier if more people help!) For info or to reserve a spot, contact Alicia Adams at alicia@puconline.org or 805-573-0848.
The Place Church Picnic
The Place will be having its annual church picnic on Sunday, August 21st from 12-4 p.m. We will have a sign-up sheet at church this Sabbath and the next so that you may sign up to bring picnic items. We invite EVERYONE to come out and spend some time with friends as we enjoy the sun, games and good food.
Children's Church-Next Sabbath
Our next Children's Church will meet next Sabbath, August 13th. Children's Church will take place in the fellowship hall and will run from 11:30-12:30. This is a time exclusively for all tots. We ask that parents with children under the age of 5 stay with their children as this is a fun filled time in which children need much guidance. Next week's leader will be Meaghan Quilop.
Food Drive-Next Sabbath
Next Sabbath is our monthly food drive. The food donations will continue to go to Ventura County Food Share. Food Share's mission is to "alleviate hunger in Ventura County". Food Share provides food to families, seniors and children. Today, one in five Ventura County children, lives below the poverty line. They have very much appreciated the donations that The Place has given. Food Share is in great need of peanut butter, canned chicken, canned tuna and canned fruit. Next week there will be a box by the door for your donations. If you, your family or someone you know, needs food assistance, please contact Pastor Simon.
Mom's Ministry
The mom's ministry meets on Wednesday afternoons and then one night a month for mothers only. This is such a blessing for so many mommies and children alike. If you have not experienced the fellowshipping that goes hand in hand with this ministry, we encourage you to give it a try-you WILL be blessed!
