The Scoop on September 15th, 2005
This Week At The PlaceThis Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week Pastor Simon begins his new series which focuses on Falling In Love With Jesus. The first sermon in his new series is titled "The Two Loves."
Also, this Sabbath we will be having a baby dedication for baby Chloe Campagna. She was born on November 30, 2004 to Brian and Stacy Campagna. We look forward to celebrating with the proud parents and grandparents (the Cano's) and her whole family.
Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.
Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Sabbath School class. This week's chapter, chapter 13, focuses on suffering. This is the last week that the group will be reading The Life You've Always Wanted. Our next book will be Lifestyle Evangelism by Joe Aldrich. If you have ever wanted to learn how to share your faith in every day life, please plan on being part of this new discipleship series!!!
Fellowship Luncheon- This Sabbath
There will be a fellowship luncheon this week following services. We invite EVERYONE to stay and eat together. This fellowship time has been such a blessing to so many- and we hope to keep adding more friends each month. We also thank April Fowler who faithfully organizes this time each month. We hope to see all of you there....and just to make sure there is enough food for everyone, please bring a dish to share.
Beach Day-This Sunday
We will be having our next Social event this Sunday, September 18th. This will be our first annual Beach Day! Our fun will begin at 11:00 a.m.and go until 4 p.m.(or as late as you'd like to stay). Bring your swimsuits, sun tan lotion, and beach balls, to Zuma beach for a day of fun and fellowship. Volleyball and other games are also on the agenda! Snacks will be provided but please bring your lunches. If you are interested in going please sign up in the lobby this Sabbath so that we can have enough snacks for everyone. Directions will be available this Sabbath for those who need them.
Youth Water Ski Trip-This Sunday
All youth are invited to come out and have a great day on the lake with us THIS Sunday, September 18. If you are interested and or planning to come, PLEASE contact Dan Roth @ 805-368-1500. These are some of the fun activities that are lined up:
- Wakeboarding (for beginners and experienced, if you are just learning we have great instructors).
- Double water skiing - (there will be help available-if need be).
- Slalom skiing (one waterski)
- Have a ball in a two or three person tube (just sit down and hang on!)
- Knee boarding.
- For the truly adventurous: try to hydrofoil in an Air Chair.
- Beach volleyball.
Everyone had such a wonderful time last year that we are looking forward to another great day of muscle stretching and face planting.
But-we still have one big need....another boat! So many youth have signed up to go that we need another ski boat. If you know anyone who has a boat who might be willing to bring it out, please contact Dan Roth or Pastor Simon.
Also on the agenda for youth.....interested youths that would like to catch some waves, come join Dave Silvestri Friday afternoons for surfing while the weather is still warm. You may contact Dave at (805) 388-5523.
Financial Update-August 2005
The Place continues to grow through the blessing of God and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. But, as we begin and continue more and bigger ministries at The Place, we need your financial support. At this point, despite our numerical growth, we are still receiving about the same amount of giving to our church. Please pray about blessing your church with "your" money!
During August, we received $5,851 towards our church budget (for our local church needs), and $8,683 in tithe (which all goes to the So. Cal. Conference.) Year to date, we have received $57,099 towards church budget (which leaves us almost $14,000 behind budget); and $92,931 in tithe.
We appreciate your commitment and support of your church. If you would like to give online, you may do so at tithe.theplacechurch.com.
Bible Worker and Bible Studies?
For those of you who missed church last week, you did not get to meet our new Bible worker. Her name is Mindy Stockton and she is a young woman from Arizona. She will be with us for the next 9 months. Her primary task is to seek out people in our community who are interested in Bible Studies and to begin studying with them; and to help train us at church to be able to study the Bible with them!
So, we have decided to give YOU the opportunity to learn how to give Bible Studies (if you desire!) We are planning on using our Sabbath School time for 12 weeks, starting in the beginning of October for this purpose. We will use a series of Bible studies and go through them together - so we can learn how to give Bible studies and bring people to decision and to make sure that we know the topics well enough to be able to share them with other people. This is such an exciting opportunity for us as a church!
We are also thinking about offering this training on Wednesday nights at The Place.
If you are interested or have questions, please talk to Mindy @ 805-807-6214 or Pastor Simon. We need to know within the next few weeks if you would like to be a part of this! We will have a sign up sheet at church this week if you would like to join us! Just let us know which time period would suit you better.
Also, to be clear, you may not be sure that you are capable of doing this. Don't be afraid. We will not pressure you. Come and check it out and see if you are gifted in this way!
Assistance For Hurricane Katrina Victims
As you all know, thousands of people are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf States of Louisana and Mississippi. Many are homeless and without food or medical supplies.
We thank you for your generosity last Sabbath as raised almost $400 from your donations for our baked good in the Cafe following church. Thanks so much!
But, of course, there is still great need. If you would like to help, we recommend donating through ACS, the Adventist Community Services department (part of ADRA), which has been very active in deploying volunteers to distribute non-perishable food items, clothing, bedding, and needed medical supplies. If you would like to assist ACS in their relief efforts, we strongly encourage you to give by logging on to www.communityservices.org or by calling 877 - ACS - 2702. Or you may contact them if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity.
And, here in LA, if you can help, the Dream Center needs volunteers to deal with the influx of victims of the hurricane. Check it out at www.dreamcenter.org.
Wild At Heart Men's Sunday - Sept. 25th
All men are invited to the next Wild At Heart Men's Sunday on September 25th at 6 p.m. at the Fulgham's house in Simi. The men are doing something different this time...no sports. Instead, we are looking for men who would like to hang out and play some pool, games and in general have a good time...and of course, there will be FOOD! So, put that time on your calendar, men, and we will have directions next week.
