This Week At The Place

This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. Pastor Simon will conclude his series on relationships this week. The title of his sermon is "Sacred Calling." We will look forward to our new series focusing on falling in love with Jesus in the gospels.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

The Discipleship group will meet this Sabbath for Sabbath School. The Discipleship group is going over the book, The Life You've Always Wanted. This week's chapter, chapter 12, focuses on the well-ordered heart. We are almost finished with this book as well. Our next one will be Lifestyle Evangelism by Joe Aldrich. If you have ever wanted to learn how to share your faith in every day life, please plan on being part of this new discipleship series!!! If you would like to be a part of this Sabbath school class, there will be a sign-up sheet in the lobby this Sabbath.

Beach Vespers-This Friday Night
As the sun continues to shine on Southern California, we are continuing to worship together on a monthly basis at the beach. Our next beach vespers is scheduled for this Friday night, September 9th, at Sycamore Cove at 6:30 pm. We have been so blessed as we have fellowshipped and worshipped together and we look forward to another blessed time with our God and one another. As usual, we will eat together, sing and share, pray and praise our God. All are invited!

Children's Church-This Sabbath
Our next Children's church is scheduled for this Sabbath, September 10th. Children's church is a time when tots learn about Christ through a Veggietales curriculum that incorporates song, story, games, crafts and snacks. This week's leader will be Jenn Lew and the theme will focus on Compassion. Children's church meets from 11:30- 12:30 p.m. in the fellowship Hall.

Food Drive-This Sabbath
Proverbs 22:9 "A good man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor." We will be having our monthly food drive this Sabbath. The Ventura County Food Share has truly appreciated The Place's donations over the summer months when donations have been down. They are thankful that we continue to show we care by giving each month. There will be a box in the lobby where you may place your donations. If you, your family, or someone you know needs food assistance, please contact Pastor Simon.

Beach Day-Next Week
We will be having our next social event on Sunday, September 18th. This will be our first annual Beach Day! Our day will begin at 11:00 a.m. and go until 4 p.m. (or as late as you'd like to stay). Bring your swimsuits, suntan lotion, and beach balls to Zuma beach for a day of fun and fellowship. Volleyball and other games are also on the agenda! Snacks will be provided but please bring your lunches. We look forward to seeing you there. Directions will be available next Sabbath.

Youth Water Ski Trip-Next Week
Come have a great day on the lake with us on Sunday, September 18. All youth are invited. Here are some of the fun things we can do:

  • Wakeboard for both beginners and more experienced. If you are just learning we have great instructors!
  • Learn to double water ski - we have people that will help you if need be.

  • Learn to slalom ski (one waterski) - we have people that can teach you.

  • Have a ball in a two or three person tube (just sit down and hang on!)

  • Knee board.

  • For the truly adventurous; try to hydrofoil in an Air Chair.

  • Play volleyball on the beach.

Everyone had such a wonderful time last year that we are looking forward to another great day of muscle stretching and face planting.

However, we have one big need....another boat! So many youth have signed up to go that we need another ski boat. If you know anyone who has a boat who might be willing to bring it out, please contact Dan Roth or Pastor Simon.

Also on the agenda for youth.....interested youths that would like to catch some waves, come join Dave Silvestri Friday afternoons for surfing while the weather is still warm. You may contact Dave at (805) 388-5523.

Assistance For Hurricane Katrina Victims
As you all know, thousands of people are suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf States of Louisana and Mississippi. Many are homeless and without food or medical supplies. This Sabbath there will be a fundraiser at The Place Cafe. Baked goods will be available for your enjoyment. These goods will be priced at whatever you would like to pay as ALL money raised will go to support the relief efforts of Hurricane Katrina.

Also, the Adventist Community Services department (part of ADRA) has been very active in deploying volunteers to distribute non-perishable food items, clothing, bedding, and needed medical supplies. If you would like to assist ACS in their relief efforts, we strongly encourage you to give by logging on to www.communityservices.org or by calling 877-ACS-2702. Or you may contact them if you are interested in volunteering in any capacity.

Also, you may have another favorite charity that is involved in this relief effort...if so, don't delay, the need is great!

Fellowship Luncheon-Next Sabbath
We will be having our fellowship luncheon next Sabbath after church. It has been such a blessing to see so many people join us for lunch and a good time after services. We hope that you'll come next week and spend time with your friends over a delicious lunch. And-just to make sure there is enough food for everyone, please bring a meal to share....thanks!
