The Scoop on November 10th, 2005

This Week At The Place
This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. He continues his series which focuses on Falling In Love With Jesus. This week is the ninth in his series and is titled "The Chosen Ones."

And, before the sermon, there will be a baby dedication. This Sabbath, proud parents Angelo & Sally Baher will be dedicating their baby girl, Lilliana Meletis to Christ. Lilliana was born on August 1st of this year.

We have a new Daily Reading Plan to follow along with the series. Pick up your copy this Sabbath. You may also listen to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!).

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts.

There are also Sabbath School classes available for all ages. Sabbath school starts at 10:30 a.m. at "The Little Place"...stop by and be blessed!

Currently, there is no Discipleship Sabbath School class. Instead there is a training class in giving personal bible studies held in the chapel behind the youth room. This class began several weeks ago and has been a blessing for so many people. There are also Discipleship training classes available on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

And-a reminder that your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. You may return your tithes and offerings to The Place.

Children's Church
There will be Children's Church this Sabbath for all the tots of our church. Children's Church is dedicated to teaching the little ones about Christ through a Veggietales curriculum that involves story, craft, snacks, and music. The theme of this month's Children's Church is patience and the leader is Cecilia Liversidge. Please bring your son or daughter to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 a.m.

Food Drive & Visitor Luncheon
So many of us are so thankful for all the blessings we have - family, friends, church, a home, a job and so much more. This Thanksgiving we can share some of our blessings with our community. This month's food donations will go toward a Thanksgiving dinner, and to provide food for families, seniors, and children in our community. This Sabbath, please place your donations of canned goods, diapers, wipies, and/or formula in the box marked "Food Drive" located in the lobby.

And-this Sabbath afternoon, we will be having another visitor luncheon potluck at the Wolcott home. Every month on the first and second Sabbath we invite visitors (and any member who would like to come) to the luncheon in order to better acquaint themselves with fellow Placers. Please mark this time on your calendars, and if possible, please bring food to share!! For any other questions, you may contact Elvina @ 805-217-0053 or Mindy Stockton @ 805-807-6214.

Progressive Christmas Dinner Party
Christmas is just around the corner...and that means that we will be celebrating with our annual Progressive Christmas Dinner Party. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, December 11th. We will be visiting three separate homes for meals and exchanging Christmas ornaments. And-there will be a special activity planned this year involving video cameras (my lips are sealed).

However, our party can only be a success with your help. There will also be a sign up sheet in the lobby starting this Sabbath.

Faith First Concert
The Faith First concert is fast approaching!! We have booked Faith First to give us a concert at The Place. They have just released a new CD entitled "This Is The Sound" and we thought it fitting to have them sing us their new songs personally. Our concert is booked for Saturday night, December 10th starting at 4 p.m. We will have a time of fellowship and food in our cafe before the concert starts and there will be more time of fellowship and you can visit with the band after the concert!
This will be a FREE concert to all so please make sure to invite your friends. If you would like to buy the CD before the concert so you can sing along, you may purchase it by logging on to www.faithfirst.net or you may buy the CD at the end of the concert. If you are interested in donating money toward the cost of this event, please contact Heather Richmund at 805-499-0398 or Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. We know that this will be a wonderful time of fellowship and worshipping God and we look forward to seeing all you there!!!!!

Mom's Ministry/Wild At Heart Men's Time
The Mom's Ministry continues to plan events together on a monthly basis. If you have not been on one of our "dates"...please take out your calendars, November is looking like a very fun month!

November 15 (Tuesday) - ANYBODY WANT TO ACTUALLY GO TO THE GETTY???? We're going to try this event for the third and hopefully successful time!! Time will be announced as it gets closer!! Please RSVP by Friday - so I know who is interested in going...

November 22 (Tuesday) - We're calling this "The Pilgrim Party" - and it is going to be a very special Thanksgiving event for Mommy and child. Bring your little pilgrims (yes you can dress them up if you want). We will have a special Thanksgiving themed craft, watch "Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving special" then have a Thanksgiving supper! We'll start at 3:30 so by the time we're done with the other fun things it'll be time to eat! This is going to be very special for the kids to learn the meaning of Thanksgiving and just to have a special time together!! Looking forward to seeing you all there!!! Please RSVP so I can plan on the food!!!

November 30 - Girl's Night Out - I'm working on something FUN (of course)! This is going to be a special evening as well because along with our evening of fun we are going to have cards for each of you - who are interested - to fill out for a Secret Santa drawing. The cards will be helpful to the person who gets your name because you will put things like the colors in your house or maybe a special request you might have for a gift... Then we'll put them in a hat you pass it around. At the December Girl's Night Out the Secret Santa gifts will be given and ALL WILL BE REVEALED!!!!!!!!! So, those who - for some sad reason - can't make it to November's Girl's Night Out - but want to be involved in the Secret Santa - NO WORRIES!!! We'll make sure you get a card and get to be involved!!

Any questions, comments? Please contact Heather @ 805-499-0398.

And-just so that the men don't feel left out....there will be another Wild At Heart Men's time on Sunday, November 20th. Men, please plan on meeting at the park located on the corner of Wendy & Kimber at 10 a.m. for a morning of fellowship and games. For any further information, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
