The Scoop at The Place - January 12th, 2006

This Week At The Place
This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue the second in his new series on prayer. This week's sermon is titled "He Is Able."

We hope and pray that you are praying for your prayer partner this week! And, we will continue to have prayer partners during the coming weeks. It is wonderful to be able to pray for one another.

And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!).

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts. Come and join the fun!

The Discipleship training class will meet this Sabbath and next Monday evening. We look forward to having this regular time again.

There are also Sabbath School classes available for all ages. Sabbath school starts at 10:30 a.m. at "The Little Place"...stop by and be blessed!

And-a reminder that your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. You may return your tithes and offerings to The Place or on-line by clicking on the link provided.

Children's Church & Food Drive-This Sabbath
We will continue with our Children's Church this Sabbath, January 14th. Please bring your little one to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 for a time of story, music, craft and snack based on a Veggietales curriculum. This month's leader is Meaghan Quilop.

And-as part of our monthly tradition, we will also be having our food drive this coming Sabbath. Every month we collect canned goods, diapers, wipies, and or formula to donate to the Ventura County Food Share. Please bring your donations this Sabbath and place them inside the box marked "Food Drive." We appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness.

Visitor Luncheon-This Sabbath Afternoon
We will continue with our visitor luncheon this Sabbath, January 14th after church services. This is an invitation for all visitors and new members to come enjoy food and fellowship at the Wolcott home in Thousand Oaks. This is a potluck luncheon for members, (guests...just come as you are)-so please take out your favorite recipe and share the good food! Directions to the Wolcott's will be available in the lobby.

Family Volleyball Night-This Saturday
We will have our first family volleyball (the first of many more) night on Saturday evening, January 14th. We invite you (whether young or old, single or with kids) to come and spend some time with your friends or getting to know new ones. We start the fun at 6:00 p.m. at the NPAA Gymnasium. We are going to be doing this regularly. But, if you are interested in being a host of these nights, please talk to Pastor Simon. We look forward to seeing you there...as part of your new beginnings!

Small Groups
Yes, it is the new year...and our small groups are recovering from their holidays and coming to life again. And, we invite you to come to life in one of them if you are not already a part of one! As we begin our new sermon series on prayer, some of the small groups will be following along and discovering about Jesus' way to pray as well. It will be a wonderful journey.

You may see a list of all the small groups on the website, but we are also starting some new ones. If you are in Thousand Oaks, Simon and Cecilia are going to be hosting a new group on Tuesday nights...and would love to have you as part of it! Just give Pastor Simon a call if you are interested @ 805-498-2300.

And, Dan and Marissa Allen are starting a new group in Oxnard/Ventura. If you are interested, please contact Dan @805-794-6343.

Also, we are strongly considering beginning another group oriented towards parents with children - if you are interested, please talk to Pastor Simon.

And, finally, if you are in the 18-30 year old range or have a passion for that age group, please talk to Pastor Simon about a new group.

New Pastor's Study
Pastor Simon is going to be starting a new study on Wednesday nights at The Place. This time together will have two focuses...first, it will be a time of Bible Study, focusing on the basic doctrines of Christians and SDAss. It will give us the opportunity to go in DEPTH on particular topics of interest to the group. And, second, it will be a time of prayer for us. We will have the time to pray for one another and for others. If you are interested in participating, please talk to Pastor Simon or email him at simonliversidge@hotmail.com. Most likely the study will start in the beginning of February at The Place. Thanks.

Fellowship Luncheon-Next Sabbath
Next Sabbath is the third Sabbath of the month and that means its time for our monthly fellowship luncheon. Everyone is invited to stay after church and enjoy delicious food and great company. We hope to see as many of you there as we can fit in the room...and please don't forget to bring some food to share.

Church Business Meeting
We will be having our annual church business meeting the last Saturday of the month, January 28th at The Place. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. but please join us for a time of worship beforehand at 5:30 p.m. The business meeting is a time when church finances are adressed as well as discussing the plans for the new year. We invite and appreciate your input for OUR church. All members are strongly encouraged to attend.
