The Scoop at The Place - January 19th, 20006

This Week At The Place
This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue the third in his new series on prayer. This week's sermon is titled "Ready To Pray."

We hope your prayer life has been a blessing to both you and your prayer partner...and we will continue to have prayer partners during the coming weeks. We invite you to join us in daily prayer for our families, our church and our community.

And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts. Come and join the fun!

And, we are looking to start a NEW SABBATH SCHOOL CLASS - a MUSIC class. This class will be all about music. If you are a musician or just like to sing a lot, this is the place for you. Each Sabbath the group will play and sing songs and hymns and praise together. It will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel next to the youth room. But, we need to know if you are interested. If you are...please contact Harley Peterson at 805-499-6266. There will also be a sign-up sheet at church this Sabbath.

The Discipleship training class will meet this Sabbath as usual at 10:30 a.m. and next Monday evening. We continue to learn how to share the good news with others.

There are also Sabbath School classes available for all ages. Sabbath school starts at 10:30 a.m. at "The Little Place"...stop by and be blessed!

And-a reminder that your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. You may return your tithes and offerings to The Place or on-line by clicking on the link provided.

Monthly Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath
This coming Sabbath, January 21, is the third Sabbath of the month and that means its time for our monthly fellowship luncheon. Everyone is invited to stay after church and enjoy delicious food and great company. We hope to see as many of you there as we can fit in the room...and please don't forget to bring some food to share.

Church Business Meeting
We will be having our annual church business meeting the last Saturday of the month, January 28th at The Place. The business meeting will start at 6 p.m. but please join us for a time of worship beforehand at 5:30 p.m. The business meeting is a time when church finances are adressed as well as discussing the plans for the new year. You are invited to ask questions and share input about our church. We invite and appreciate your input for OUR church. All members are strongly encouraged to attend...please join us for this important time. Following the meeting, we will have a Soup Supper together in our cafe and a time of fellowship. Please plan on joining us. Thanks.

Financial Update - 2005
Yes...it is a new year, but we wanted to share with you about the incredible blessings of 2005. All year long you heard about our church budget and our financial needs, and you have responded with great generosity. Thanks!

During December we received $35,728 in tithe...bringing our total for the year to $170,894. This is an increase of approximately $26,000 over last year. This giving to our local conference allows us to have our pastor and supports our local schools and medical work as well as many other ministries in Los Angeles and around the world.

We also received $43,619 towards our church budget in December. This is an incredible blessing for us as a church. It brings our total giving to church budget to $123,527 for the year. This giving allows us to finish 2005 AHEAD of our budget. Thanks so much! God has blessed us and we believe that He will continue to bless you in your faithful giving.

As a reminder, if you have questions about our local church budget or giving in general, we will be addressing this at our Business Meeting on January 28.
And, as we are already beginning a new year, and a new budget, we invite you to continue your faithful giving in 2006. God has blessed us so much...and, we are praising God in advance for his blessings to come!

Youth Calendar
Take out your calendars...there are a few new things in store for the youth. First, there will be a vespers on Friday night, February 3rd. The details will come soon.
Second, it's time for our next Big House vespers! Our first Youth "Big House" for 2006 is scheduled for Friday Night, February 24th @ 7pm. We are planning a dynamic Speaker, an awesome band, terrific food and a great time to hang out with one another. Please reserve this night and stay tuned for more details.

And, finally, don't forget that the NPAA gym is open to you and your friends on Sunday evenings starting at 6 p.m. Stop by and be blessed!

Prayer and Small Groups
As you know, we have been studying about prayer at church during the past few weeks, and will be continuing during the next weeks to learn how to pray like Jesus prayed. Many of you have chosen prayer partners at church and we encourage you each week to pray for the other person, and to give them a call or drop them an email. But, our prayer team is also busy and would love to pray for you...if you have prayer requests you may email them to Joelle Vessels at processgirl@hotmail.com.

Also, as a reminder, our small groups are continuing strong. Several of our groups are focusing on prayer as well. You can find a complete list of these groups on our website. And, we are starting several new small groups - in Ventura, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pastor Simon.

Upcoming Events
There are a few events that are fast approaching, and we would love for you to be a part of it. First, there is THE game of the year, The Super Bowl, on Sunday, February 5th. We have not confirmed a venue for it as of yet (if you would like to host it, please contact Cecilia Liversidge @ 805-531-0494 asap), but we know that it will be an afternoon of much eating and fellowshipping.

Second but more importantly, is the Valentine's Dinner scheduled for Saturday night, February 11th. Please stay tuned for more details on both of these events.
And, on that Sunday, February 12th, save the date, ladies, for a baby shower for Amy Miller.

And, fourth, we are going to be having an outing of horseback riding on a Sabbath afternoon in February. Stay tuned for the exact date and details.

Pastor's Study
Pastor Simon is going to be starting a new study on Wednesday nights at The Place. This time together will have two focuses...first, it will be a time of Bible Study, focusing on the basic doctrines of Christians and SDA's. It will give us the opportunity to go in DEPTH on particular topics of interest to the group. And, second, it will be a time of prayer for us. We will have the time to pray for one another and for others. If you are interested in participating, please talk to Pastor Simon or email him at simonliversidge@hotmail.com. The study is scheduled to begin on Wednesday night, February 1st at The Place.
