The Scoop at The Place - January 5th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceThis Sabbath we welcome in a new year...and new beginnings. Pastor Simon will begin preaching a new series focused on prayer. This week's sermon is titled "The First Prayer." If you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons online (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.
Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets at 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. They are exploring the book of Acts. Come and join the fun!
The Discipleship training class will meet this Sabbath and this Monday evening. We look forward to having this regular time again.
There are also Sabbath School classes available for all ages. Sabbath school starts at 10:30 a.m. at "The Little Place"...stop by and be blessed!
And-a reminder that your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. You may return your tithes and offerings to The Place or online.
Farewell to The Shea's
There will be a farewell party for Branon, Robyn and Nolan Shea THIS Saturday evening, January 7th. The get together/farewell party will be held at Deane and Elvina Wolcott's home, 3216 Casino Drive in Thousand Oaks. (Ph. 805-492-7180) Light refreshments will be served from 5-8 p.m. We are so sad to see the Shea's go, but we are also happy for the new chapter in their lives. We love you and will me you GREATLY!!! We invite you to come and send them off well! Look for directions in the lobby on Sabbath.
Volleyball Family Night
We will have our first family volleyball (the first of many more) night on Saturday evening, January 14th. We invite you (whether young or old, single or with kids) to come and spend some time with your friends or getting to know new ones. We start the fun at 6:00 p.m. at the NPAA Gymnasium. We are going to be doing this regularly. But, if you are interested in being a host of these nights, please talk to Pastor Simon. We look forward to seeing you there...as part of your new beginnings!
Children's Church & Monthly Food Drive-Next Sabbath
We will continue with our Children's Church next Sabbath, January 14th. Please bring your little one to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 for a time of story, music, craft and snack based on a Veggietales curriculum. This month's leader is Meaghan Quilop.
And-as part of our monthly tradition, we will also be having our food drive next Sabbath. Every month we collect canned goods, diapers, wipies, and or formula to donate to the Ventura County Food Share. Please bring your donations next Sabbath and place them inside the box marked "Food Drive." We appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness.
The Place Website & New Online Directory!
We are very proud of our church website... www.theplacechurch.com. And, we invite you to check it out if you have not done so. You can find everything you need to know about The Place - from our church calendar to photos of our church events. You may even shop online and The Place gets a 4-8% rebate. Just start your shopping from the store links on our website and The Place receives credit automatically.
And, now, something new...remember those times when you were looking for a member phone number or address? Well, we have just rolled out your solution...the official Place Online Directory. To keep everyone's information very secure, you'll have to create (and remember) a login and password to access the directory. You can search for members by first or last name and view whole families on one screen. The directory contains members and regular attendees of The Place, including children. But, if you are not in our directory and should be, we apologize in advance. It's just in its infancy, so if you find errors you may forward them to jeremy@jeremybachmann.com. This is awesome!
It's that easy! And-if there are any other suggestions for shopping websites for us to try and add, please contact Jeremy Bachmann at 818-438-5316. Happy shopping!
Small Groups
Yes, it is the new year...and our small groups are recovering from their holidays and coming to life again. And, we invite you to come to life in one of them if you are not already a part of one! As we begin our new sermon series on prayer, some of the small groups will be following along and discovering about Jesus' way to pray as well. It will be a wonderful journey.
You may see a list of all the small groups on the website, but we are also starting some new ones. If you are in Thousand Oaks, Simon and Cecilia are going to be hosting a new group on Tuesday nights...and would love to have you as part of it! Just give Pastor Simon a call if you are interested @ 805-498-2300.
And, Dan and Marissa Allen are starting a new group in Oxnard/Ventura. If you are interested, please contact Dan @ 805-794-6343.
Also, we are strongly considering beginning another group oriented towards parents with children - if you are interested, please talk to Pastor Simon.
And, finally, if you are in the 18-30 year old range or have a passion for that age group, please talk to Pastor Simon about a new group.
Visitor Luncheon-Next Sabbath
We will continue with our visitor luncheon next Sabbath, January 14th after church services. This is an invitation for all visitors and new members to come enjoy food and fellowship at the Wolcott home in Thousand Oaks. This is a potluck luncheon for members, (guests...just come as you are)-so please take out your favorite recipe and share the good food! Directions to the Wolcott's will be available next week.
Prayer and future things
Yes, you will be hearing a lot about prayer this year! And, starting this Sabbath we will have Prayer Partner Cards available for each person at church. We invite you to fill one out...turn it in, and take someone else's card in return - and then pray for them during the week. We look forward to many answered prayers!
Also, just some advance notice about a few things coming up: we have our fellowship luncheon on January 21; then on Saturday night January 28 we are going to have a church business meeting at The Place. ALL MEMBERS are invited and encouraged to come as we share about our church and its plans, its needs and our finances. Please put that date in your calendar.
And, starting in the end of February/early March, Pastor Simon is going to begin a Wednesday evening Pastor's Study/Prayer time at The Place. If this is something you are interested in or have questions about, please talk to him.
