The Scoop At The Place - March 30th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place and pray that you are having a blessed week! This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "The Kingdom and The Church" It is the second of his mini-series on the kingdom of heaven as we prepare for Easter.
And, even though our sermon series on prayer is ending, we invite you to continue your new habit of daily prayer!! We hope your prayer life has been a blessing to you and your prayers are growing in strength. We invite you to join us in daily prayer for our families, our church and our community...especially at 3:00 p.m. daily.
All Sabbath Schools, including the new music Sabbath School class, will meet at 10:30 a.m. However, there will be no Discipleship meeting as the classes are over. Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school who are currently studying the book of Acts.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath school classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.
Also, our online photo directory is making great progress. We've been trying to get everyone's photo, but The Place is . . . well . . . a BIG Place! Please check your listing in the online directory. If your picture isn't there or you have a better picture you'd like to submit, please send your digital photo to Jeremy Bachmann through the link provided below.. Photos of spouses, kids, friends are welcome if they're too shy to ask. Individual head shots that actually look like you are ideal. Family photos are not necessary for this project. We can crop.
And, we appreciate your financial support of The Place with your tithes and offerings. If you would like to give on-line, you may simply use the link.
New Member Luncheon-This Sabbath
We will have another new member luncheon this coming Sabbath, April 1st following church services. This is a luncheon for all new members that joined the Place in 2005/06 and who were not able to attend last month's meeting. It will be a potluck luncheon, so please bring food to share and then plan on staying and sharing about God, the vision for The Place, and future plans.
New Sabbath School on the Sanctuary
We will be starting a new Sabbath School on Sabbath, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. It will be a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. We will be using Dr. Roy Gane's book, Altar Call, as our outline. The study will be co-lead by Pastor Simon and Bill Werner. We have already ordered books, but we need to know if you want to be a part of this study. If so, you may sign up on the sheet at church this Sabbath, or contact Simon or Bill directly. We are looking forward to a great time in the Word!
Tijuana Mission Project
As many of you may know by now, we have made our commitment to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru. Except, this will be closer to home. The date is now firm...it will be the week of July 16-23rd. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! First, we need to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then we need to go there and build it! So, if you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, let's talk... please contact Pastor Simon. And-if you are planning on being a part of this wonderful experience...please submit your $100 deposit as soon as possible. Thanks!
Monthly Food Drive-Next Sabbath
Next Sabbath is our monthly canned food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. Last month we had many donations of peanut butter, tuna fish, and diapers. These items were greatly needed. The Ventura County Food Share is very thankful for our donations and kindness. However, they are still in need of peanut butter and diapers. There will be a box by the door next Sabbath for your contributions. Thank you for your continued support for our community.
Youth Calendar
All the youth are invited for a Friday Night get together at Dawn & Harley Peterson's home, 187 Hilliard Lane, Newbury Park (behind NPAA) on Friday, April 7th from 7-9 p.m. to relax and hang out with your friends. There will be hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls.
And-mark the date...the next Big House Vespers is scheduled for April 21st. Stay tuned for more details.
Also, the NPAA gym is open to all youth on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for fun and games.
Easter Celebration
Easter is just around the corner (April 16th), and we are gearing up to celebrate this glorious occasion commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! We will begin by celebrating on Sabbath with a special program at church and then having our fellowship luncheon. And, on Sunday, we will continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a morning service at 9 a.m. at Dos Vientos Park. There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the children following Sunday's service. We invite all of you to come and share in this special time...and bring your friends too!
Pastor's Study and Small Groups
We have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. We have been enoying the chance to really get into Christian/SDA doctrine. There is plenty of time for questions and awesome discussion. Our meetings are sheduled on Wednesday nights starting at 7 p.m. This week we will be looking at the Holy Spirit.
And-don't forget that we have many small groups that are going strong...some may even be closer to you than you think! You can check out all the groups on-line by clicking on the link below. If you would like to find out more about small groups, or are interested in joining one, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
