The Scoop at The Place - March 9th, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place and pray that you are having a blessed week! This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "The Eyes of Prayer." It is the ninth in his series on Prayer.

We hope your prayer life has been a blessing to you and your prayers are growing in strength. We invite you to join us in daily prayer for our families, our church and our community...especially at 3:00 p.m. daily.

All Sabbath Schools will meet (including the new music Sabbath School and discipleship class) at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school who are currently studying the book of Acts.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath school classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!).

Also, our online photo directory is making great progress. We've been trying to get everyone's photo, but The Place is . . . well . . . a BIG Place! Please check your listing in the online directory. If your picture isn't there or you have a better picture you'd like to submit, please send your digital photo to Jeremy Bachmann . Photos of spouses, kids, friends are welcome if they're too shy to ask. Individual head shots that actually look like you are ideal. Family photos are not necessary for this project. We can crop.

A reminder that you may also support The Place financially through your tithes and offerings online or during our church services.

Food Drive & Children's Church This Sabbath
This Sabbath (the second Sabbath of each month) we will have our monthly canned food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. They are in special need of peanut butter, tuna fish and diapers. There will be a box by the door this Sabbath for your contributions. James 2:22 "Seeth thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works faith made perfect." Thank you for your continued support of our community.

This Sabbath, March 11th, we will be having our monthly children's church. This is a time designed especially for the little ones as they learn about Jesus and Christian values through story, music, crafts, and snack. This month's leader is Heather Richmund. Children's Church starts at 11:30 in the fellowship hall. We invite you and your children to check it out!

Mommies Ministry
We are having some wonderful mommy events this month- not all on Wednesday - so watch for that! But first of all, please know that our "Mommy of the Month" is Leila Silva!!! Her husband is going to be traveling for work a whole lot this month so we thought it would be a great idea to help her out this month!! This is a great opportunity for you to give her some extra tender loving care - but remember you can do these things as your schedule allows - there are no rules!!! Some of the things that Leila has requested are:

Prayer (so important we pray for Leila this month & keep Sally in your prayers as well!) Lisa has her yearly evaluations throughout the month of March and then the meeting to find out whether the government will continue to support her education at Conejo Elementary School is in April... Please pray specifically for this event as well as her whole family and the safety of Marcello as he travels this month.

She requested more than anything, to have the opportunity to get some projects done in her house, girlfriends to do those projects with and help with the kids while the work is being done. So, this gives you all the opportunity to shower Leila with a lot of love, take her out to lunch, send her a card, give her a phone call and pray pray pray!!! This is such a special part of the Mommies Ministry - because it truly is a way for us all to take care of our own!!!!!!!!!

OK, this month's events are going to be varied and fun - so here they are:

March 16 - Thursday afternoon from 3:00 to 5:00 - stay tuned - we're going to go somewhere local and FUN with the kids!!!

March 19 - Sunday - 10:00 am until 12:00 noon - Let's all meet at Leila's house to help her with her house projects... Be ready to paint or refinish some furniture or anything else that comes up between now and then!!!

March 29 - Wednesday night is our monthly Girl's Night Out!!! This will be a game night!! We'll all just hang out and play table games and snack on goodies!! Denise Ramirez has agreed to open her home for this fun event!!! Fun Fun Fun!!!!

For more information about any of these events, you may contact Heather Richmund at 805-499-0398 or via e-mail.

Fellowship Lunch and Bowling next Sabbath and a few things after that
Next Sabbath, March 18th, we will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon. Stay tuned for all the details of the theme for this month, but make sure to save that time for our special fellowship together.

And, that evening, we invite you to STRIKE up some new friendships at the bowling alley. We invite you and your friends to come out to our March social event on Saturday night, March 18th. We will be bowling at Harley's Bowl in Simi Valley starting at 7:30 p.m. Spare no effort to make it.

And, while you have your calendars out, we will have the next Men's Wild at Heart time on Sunday, March 19th and our next Place Vespers on Friday night, March 24th.

Church Building Project in Tijuana this July
Yes, it is true. We have made our commitment to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru. Except, this will be closer to home. The exact dates have not yet been determined, but it will be the second half of July. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! First, we need to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then we need to go there and build it! So, if you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, or even COORDINATING the whole project (!!), let's talk... please contact Pastor Simon.

Pastor's Study - Wednesday Evenings (but NOT next week!)
We have begun our Pastor's study on Wednesday nights at The Place. We have been enoying the chance to really get into Christian/SDA doctrine. There is plenty of time for questions and awesome discussion.

We normally meet on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. at The Place for a time of study, prayer, and sharing. But, this week, we have our FINANCE and STEERING Committees, so the Pastor's study will not meet. But, we are ready to welcome you and your friends the following week (March 22.)

Miscellaneous - jobs, rooms and more
First, we have a request for someone looking for a room to rent. Richard and Arla Caraboolad's nephew is coming to do an internship in Westlake for 6 months. If you have a room he could rent, please contact Richard at 805-522-2474.

Also, there are several church members looking for jobs at the moment...if you have leads or can actually hire someone, please talk to Pastor Simon. We want to try and bless one another in every way possible. Thanks.

New Small Group for Collegiates/Young Adults
There is a new small group forming designed especially for 18-30 year olds. It will meet on Thursday nights, starting next week, March 16th. Tami Hartman will be coordinating. Please contact Tami at 805-907-9093 for any further information, or you may talk to Pastor Simon. We are excited about this new small group, and we hope that you are to!

Also, we have many other small groups meeting. You can find a complete list on our church website. Don't miss out on the incredible fellowship and spiritual maturity through our weekly times together. If you have questions or are interested in starting a new group, please talk to Pastor Simon.
