The Scoop at The Place - April 13, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "If I Am Lifted Up..." We will have a very special Easter program with creative worship and some special musical numbers to help us celebrate.

We have two adult Sabbath Schools, including the new Sabbath school class on the Sanctuary taught by Bill Werner & Pastor Simon. They meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is currently studying the book of Acts.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.

Also, our online photo directory is making great progress. We've been trying to get everyone's photo, but The Place is . . . well . . . a BIG Place! Please check your listing in the online directory. If your picture isn't there or you have a better picture you'd like to submit, please send your digital photo to Jeremy Bachmann through the link provided below.. Photos of spouses, kids, friends are welcome if they're too shy to ask. Individual head shots that actually look like you are ideal. Family photos are not necessary for this project. We can crop.

And, we appreciate your financial support of The Place with your tithes and offerings. During March, we received $12,375 in tithe, which goes to our So. Cal. Conference; and we received $9,643 towards our local church budget. That gives us a total of $22,913 towards our church budget for this year before...leaving us approximately $4,000 behind for our budget so far this year. If you would like to give on-line, you may simply use the link.

New Sabbath School Class on Sanctuary
Last week we started a new Sabbath school class on the sanctuary. It is a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. We are using Dr. Roy Gane's book, Altar Call, as our outline. The study will be co-lead by Pastor Simon and Bill Werner. It is not too late to join and take part in this fascinating class. If you are interested in this study, please stop by the class this Sabbath, or contact Simon (805-498-2300) or Bill (661-993-2984) directly. We are looking forward to a great time in the Word! If you want to check out the book - the entire book is available for viewing on-line!

Fellowship Luncheon & Hike This Sabbath
You are invited to our monthly fellowship luncheon this Sabbath following church services. This month's theme is "Mexican" and we are looking forward to all of the delicious food and wonderful fellowship time. Denise Ramirez is this month's contact, you may contact her through the link below. Please remember that this is a "potluck" so please, please bring something to share...thanks!

And, stick around, because following the fellowship luncheon, there will be a hike headed by Caleb Guevara. We will leave church at 2:30 p.m. and head on out to the Santa Monica mountains to the hiking trail, Sandstone Peak (the highest peak in the S.M. mountains). This will be a moderate 1.3 mile hike to the summit (a gorgeous view) and then you will have the option to continue along the loop for a longer hike or to head back down the mountain. If you are planning on going, please bring dress in layers, wear your hiking shoes, and bring plenty of water. If you have any further questions, please contact Caleb at 805-796-7035. Directions will be available at church.

Easter
Please join us this Easter Sunday, April 16th as we come together for a very special "sunrise" service celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ! We will begin with a morning service at 9 a.m. at Dos Vientos Park located in Newbury Park. Dos Vientos Park is at the corner of Lynn Road and Via Andrea, in Newbury Park. From the 101 - take Wendy south to Lynn Road and turn right on Lynn. Follow it up the hill to the corner of Via Andrea...the park is on the RIGHT. There will be a time of praise and worship followed by a light continental breakfast and then an Easter egg hunt for the children. We invite all of you to come and share in this special time...and bring your friends too!

Youth Big House Vespers-Next Friday
We have a special Big House Vespers next Friday night, April 21st at The Place. The fun starts at 7:00 p.m. and will include all the usual suspects: a great band, engaging speaker and, of course, Food! So, come on out and join us...and make sure to invite your friends.

Then, the following Friday, April 28th we will again be having a youth event on Friday night at The Place. But, this will be a very different event...it will be a FAMINE...shared with the youth from the Vineyard Church. You will hear more details next week.

Also, the NPAA gym is open to all youth on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for basketball.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game
Our April social will take place on Sunday, April 23rd. We will be going to a Dodger game. The Dodgers will be hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:10 p.m. and tickets are only $10 each!!!! Many people have already signed up, but there is still some availability. Please sign up this Sabbath or contact Pastor Simon.

Tijuana Mission Church Building Project
The Place is going to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru, except, this will be closer to home. We will be building the church the week of July 16-23rd. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! Our goal is to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then to go there and build it! If you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. And-if you are sure you are going to be a volunteer, please submit your $100 deposit by April 15th (this weekend). Also, even if you are not going, you can support the project by DONATING towards it. Simply write a check to The Place and mark it Mexico mission. Thanks!

Mommies Ministry
There are several fun things planned in April for mommies and their little ones. First, our mommy of the month is Heather Richmund. Last month she completed a triathlon (way to go, Heather!), but not before breaking her handÂ…so what better time to shower her with love and much needed HELP!!! She needs help in cleaning her house, dinners, time out with her husband, and anything to brighten her day. Please give Heather a call at 805-499-0398. Some of the April activities are: Monday, April 17th @ 4:30 p.m. -a very special time with our little ones at Fire Your Imagination in T.O., a ceramic painting place. The children will paint something for Grandma in preparation for Mothers Day. Come join the fun at 4:30 and then head on over to Lamppost Pizza at 6 p.m. to hang out with the Daddies as well. Lamppost Pizza is located off of Borchard and Conejo Rd. Wenesday April 26th is Girl's Night Out and is a "Beautification" Theme. We will meet at Lilian Alvez's home (on the academy campus) at 6:30pm. Please bring ALL of your make-up items for a class with Lilian. She will teach us new ways to look beautiful. If you have a mirror, bring that, as well. Since we are focusing on beauty, bring a healthy snack to share with everyone. We're looking forward to seeing all of you there. If you have any questions, email Lilian through the link listed below.
