The Scoop at The Place - April 20th, 2006

This Week At The Place We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "For such a time as this..." We will continue to focus our attention on the Kingdom of God.

We have three adult Sabbath Schools, including the new Sabbath school class on the Sanctuary taught by Bill Werner & Pastor Simon. They meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is currently studying the book of Acts. And, Harley Peterson is leading out anyone interested in music...in our music Sabbath School.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.

And, we appreciate your financial support of The Place with your tithes and offerings. During March, we received $12,375 in tithe, which goes to our So. Cal. Conference; and we received $9,643 towards our local church budget. That gives us a total of $22,913 towards our church budget for this year before...leaving us approximately $4,000 behind for our budget so far this year. If you would like to give on-line, you may simply use the link.

New Sabbath School Class on the Sanctuary
2 weeks ago we started a new Sabbath school class on the sanctuary. It is a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. We are using Dr. Roy Gane's book, Altar Call, as our outline. The study will be co-lead by Pastor Simon and Bill Werner. It is not too late to join and take part in this fascinating class. If you are interested in this study, please stop by the class this Sabbath, or contact Simon (805-498-2300) or Bill (661-993-2984) directly. We are looking forward to a great time in the Word! We now have extra copies of the book...just let us know if you would like one. Or, the entire book is available for viewing on-line!

Take Me Out To The Ball Game This Sunday!
Our April social will take place this coming Sunday, April 23rd. We will be going to a Dodger game. The Dodgers will be hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:10 p.m. and tickets are only $10 each!!!! Many people have already signed up, but there is still some availability. If you are interested in going, please contact Pastor Simon.

Mommies Ministry
There are several fun things planned in April for mommies and their little ones. First, our mommy of the month is Heather Richmund. Last month she completed a triathlon (way to go, Heather!), but not before breaking her handÂ…so what better time to shower her with love and much needed HELP!!! She needs help in cleaning her house, dinners, time out with her husband, and anything to brighten her day. Please give Heather a call at 805-499-0398. Some of the April activities are: Monday, April 24th @ 4:30 p.m. (this was cancelled last week and rescheduled to this coming Monday)-a very special time with our little ones at Fire Your Imagination in T.O., a ceramic painting place. The children will paint something for Grandma in preparation for Mothers Day. Come join the fun at 4:30 and then head on over to Lamppost Pizza at 6 p.m. to hang out with the Daddies as well. Lamppost Pizza is located off of Borchard and Conejo Rd.

Wenesday April 26th is Girl's Night Out and is a "Beautification" Theme. We will meet at Lilian Alvez's home (on the academy campus) at 6:30pm. Please bring ALL of your make-up items for a class with Lilian. She will teach us new ways to look beautiful. If you have a mirror, bring that, as well. Since we are focusing on beauty, bring a healthy snack to share with everyone. We're looking forward to seeing all of you there. If you have any questions, email Lilian through the link listed below.

Nominating Committee (and what that means for you!)
Our Nominating Committee for The Place has begun their work, so if you are a member of The Place you should be hearing from us (and sometimes from several people!) This Sabbath again we are handing out a sheet listing all the various ministries we have currently at church. If you are interested in participating in any of them, we invite you to return the sheet filled out, or simply contact Pastor Simon. We would LOVE for you to be involved with us. And, don't stress if what you are interested in is not listed...we also love to start new things or to help train you if you are interested in a particular ministry, but don't feel adequately prepared.

As an added resource, the ministries page on The Place website can give you some ideas of what ministries we have and ideas for ones we could have! We've included general ministry descriptions from other Adventist churches as a guide, but not as a rule. Find your own place in the body of Christ using the unique gifts God gave you!

Tijuana Mission Church Building Project
The Place is going to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru, except, this will be closer to home. We will be building the church the week of July 16-23rd. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! Our goal is to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then to go there and build it! If you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. And-if you are sure you are going to be a volunteer, please submit your $100 deposit as soon as possible. Also, even if you are not going, you can support the project by DONATING towards it. Simply write a check to The Place and mark it Mexico mission. Thanks!

Small Groups/Prayer and other things
Yes, it is true...our small groups continue to grow and multiply! We are at the beginning stages of at least 2 new small groups (besides our 18-30 year olds one, which has recently started.) We will be beginning a new small group in Simi Valley very shortly, and also are looking at starting a new small group for those interested in praise music and practicing their musical skills. If you have an interest in either of those small groups, please contact Pastor Simon.

Also, there are many other small groups currently functioning. You can check out the list on our website under small groups.

And, our prayer team continues to be a real blessing to us as a church. If you have a passion for prayer, we invite you to be a part. Or, if you have prayer needs, please email our prayer coordinator, Joelle Vessels, at processgirl@hotmail.com
Have a blessed week.
