Youth Famine-THIS Friday Night
ALL youth are invited to a very special night, THIS Friday night, April 28th at 6pm at the Place. Our Youth Group will be participating in a 30 hour famine with the Vineyard church to raise money for World Vision's "feed the children". During the Famine, we will be performing 4 hours of community service, playing games and taking time to share. At the end of the Famine, a light dinner will be served to break the famine. Anyone interested in donating to a youth or any youth interested in participating, please contact Robert Nomelli at 818-292-6143.
Also, there is an opportunity available to some of the youth to take part in a uniquely fun event for an AY, School or church-wide activity. That's right, you may have a chance to participate in Virtual Memory, a bible trivia game show for teens which airs worldwide on TBN (Trinity Broadcasting Network) as well as on their other cable network devited to teens, JCTV. The schools and churches in SCC have been invited by Virtual Memory to put teams of youth on the show over the next several months. Players answer bible questions in four separate rounds for points , as well as identifying Christian Music videos and a word game round (similar to Password or Taboo). Questions are non-sectarian and youth have an opportunity to study the relevant passages beforehand. Shows are taped four at a time one Saturday a month with the option for morning or afternoon. Please call or email the producer, Dave Gripenwaldt. Mr. Gripenwaldt is able to answer any questions you may have as well as talk over open dates and whether there are openings for junior or high school age teams in a given month. His email is virtualmemorydave@yahoo.com and he can be reached at either of the following numbers: 714-531-6352 (land line) or 714-392-0300 (his mobile number).
And-don;t forget...the NPAA gym is open to all youth on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for basketball.
Maranatha Mission Trip
The Place is going to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru, except, this will be closer to home. We will be building the church the week of July 16-23rd. We are still in need of volunteers!!! Our goal is to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then to go there and build it! If you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. And-if you are sure you are going to be a volunteer, please submit your $100 deposit as soon as possible. Also, even if you are not going, you can support the project by DONATING towards it. Simply write a check to The Place and mark it Mexico mission. Thanks!
Nominating Committee
Our Nominating Committee for The Place has begun their work, so if you are a member of The Place you should be hearing from us (and sometimes from several people!) This Sabbath again we are handing out a sheet listing all the various ministries we have currently at church. If you are interested in participating in any of them, we invite you to return the sheet filled out, or simply contact Pastor Simon. We would LOVE for you to be involved with us. And, don't stress if what you are interested in is not listed...we also love to start new things or to help train you if you are interested in a particular ministry, but don't feel adequately prepared.
As an added resource, the ministries page on The Place website can give you some ideas of what ministries we have and ideas for ones we could have! We've included general ministry descriptions from other Adventist churches as a guide, but not as a rule. Find your own place in the body of Christ using the unique gifts God gave you!
Written in The Heart Day
May 6th has been designated as "Written In The Heart Sabbath!" Christian leaders have designated Sunday, May 7th as Ten Commandments Day, in an effort to bring a revival of interest in the Ten Commandments. The North American Religious Liberty Association, in conjunction with Liberty Magazine and the Pacific Union Department of Public Affairs & Religious Liberty, urges churches and schools to observe May 6th as "Written In The Heart Sabbath." The Ten Commandments have become a battleground as lawsuits are repeatedly fought over their public display. As Seventh-Day Adventists, we understand the necessity of a spiritual revival that leads to commandment keeping. The emphasis is not on securing public honor for the law of God, but on putting the law of God where it belongs-in the human heart. If God's law is written in our hearts, resulting in spiritual revival, we can preserve our heritage of Freedom. If not, and the state must enforce religious and moral laws, the result is tyrrany. The future of the American experiment in liberty hangs on the question. Written In The Heart Sabbath is about recovering the new covenant experience, and about the necessity of a spiritual revival that alone can preserve our liberty.
Small Group, Prayer, & Other Things
Yes, it is true...our small groups continue to grow and multiply! We are at the beginning stages of at least 2 new small groups (besides our 18-30 year olds one, which has recently started.) We will be beginning a new small group in Simi Valley very shortly, and also are looking at starting a new small group for those interested in praise music and practicing their musical skills. If you have an interest in either of those small groups, please contact Pastor Simon.
Also, there are many other small groups currently functioning. You can check out the list on our website under small groups.
And, our prayer team continues to be a real blessing to us as a church. If you have a passion for prayer, we invite you to be a part. Or, if you have prayer needs, please email our prayer coordinator, Joelle Vessels, at processgirl@hotmail.com
Have a blessed week.
