The Scoop at The Place - April 6th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place and pray that you are having a blessed week! This week Pastor Simon will be preaching. The title of his sermon is "God's Kingdom, God's Image" It is the last of his mini-series on the kingdom of heaven as we prepare for Easter next week. And- there will be a children's story before the sermon given by Donna Pullen.
All Sabbath Schools, including the new Sabbath school class on the sanctuary taught by Bill Werner & Pastor Simon will meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school who are currently studying the book of Acts.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath school classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out all the new stuff at www.theplacechurch.com.
Also, our online photo directory is making great progress. We've been trying to get everyone's photo, but The Place is . . . well . . . a BIG Place! Please check your listing in the online directory. If your picture isn't there or you have a better picture you'd like to submit, please send your digital photo to Jeremy Bachmann through the link provided below.. Photos of spouses, kids, friends are welcome if they're too shy to ask. Individual head shots that actually look like you are ideal. Family photos are not necessary for this project. We can crop.
And, we appreciate your financial support of The Place with your tithes and offerings. If you would like to give on-line, you may simply use the link.
Monthly Canned Food Drive-This Sabbath
This Sabbath is our monthly canned food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. Last month we had many donations of peanut butter, tuna fish, and diapers. These items were greatly needed. The Ventura County Food Share is very thankful for our donations and kindness. However, they are still in need of peanut butter and diapers. There will be a box by the door this Sabbath for your contributions. Thank you for your continued support for our community.
Youth Calendar
All the youth are invited over to Harley & Dawn Peterson's home, tomorrow night (Friday, April 7th) from 7 - 9 p.m. They live at 187 Hilliard Lane, Newbury Park (behind NPAA). So come and relax and hang out with your friends. There will be hot chocolate and cinnamon rolls.
And-mark the date...the next Big House Vespers is scheduled for April 21st. Stay tuned for more details.
Also, the NPAA gym is open to all youth on Sunday evenings from 6-8 p.m. for fun and games.
New Sabbath School on The Sanctuary-Meet this Sabbath
We will be starting a new Sabbath School on Sabbath, April 8th, at 10:30 a.m. It will be a topical study of the Sanctuary doctrine. We will be using Dr. Roy Gane's book, Altar Call, as our outline. The study will be co-lead by Pastor Simon and Bill Werner. We have already ordered books, but we need to know if you want to be a part of this study. If so, please stop by the class this Sabbath, or contact Simon or Bill directly. We are looking forward to a great time in the Word!
Church Building Project in Tijuana this July - Brief Meeting Sabbath
As many of you may know by now, we have made our commitment to build a church this summer in Tijuana, Baja, California. This will be another Maranatha project such as we experienced last summer in Peru. Except, this will be closer to home. The date is now firm...it will be the week of July 16-23rd. Now that we have committed The Place, we are looking for volunteers! Our goal is to raise the $20,000 to build the church, and then to go there and build it! If you are interested in fund-raising or going as part of the project, please come to the brief meeting that will be held this Sabbath right after church. And-if you are sure you are going to be a volunteer, please submit your $100 deposit by April 15th. Thanks!
Easter Celebration
Easter is just around the corner (April 16th), and we are gearing up to celebrate this glorious occasion commemorating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! We will begin by celebrating on Sabbath with a special program at church and then having our fellowship luncheon. After eating together, we will go on a hike organized by Caleb Guevara.
And, on Sunday, we will continue to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ with a morning service at 9 a.m. at Dos Vientos Park. There will be a time of praise and worship followed by a light continental breakfast and then an Easter egg hunt for the children. We invite all of you to come and share in this special time...and bring your friends too!
Take Me Out To The Ball Game...
Our April social will take place on Sunday, April 23rd. We will be going to a Dodger game. The Dodgers will be hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks at 1:10 p.m. and tickets are only $10 each!!!! Many people have already signed up, but there is still some availability. Please sign up this Sabbath.
Get involved at The Place!
This Sabbath, we will be handing out a sheet with various ministry opportunities as our nominating committee is beginning their work for our church for next year. We would love YOU to be involved. If you are interested in being a part of any ministry at church or beginning a new one, please come fill out this information sheet and hand it back in. Our nominating committee will meet for the first time next Wednesday evening, April 12th at 7:30 p.m.
And, even if you can't be there this week, please contact Pastor Simon if you are interested in being involved in any way!
And, as a result of our Nominating Committee this week, our Pastor's Study on Wednesday nights will NOT meet this week. We will be back together the following week, April 19.
And-don't forget that we have many small groups that are going strong...some may even be closer to you than you think! You can check out all the groups on-line by clicking on the link below. If you would like to find out more about small groups, or are interested in joining one, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
