Memorial Weekend Celebration & Our Marines
As we get ready to enjoy a long Memorial Day weekend, we want to remember to pray for service people everywhere and their fight for other people's freedom as well as our own. May God's grace and protection surround them all.
Also, we would like to give you another opportunity to give towards the care packages we are getting together for one of our members stationed in Irag. We invite you to support Josue Gomez and let him know that we are thinking for him and praying for him and that we miss him. If you are interested in contributing to the care packages for Josue, please bring your items and/or letters to church this Sabbath or contact Cindy Schumacher via the link below. Please also remember in prayer our two other Marines, Sam Gomez and James Baker.
Cafe Vespers- Next Friday Night
We are having another scintillating time together at our next Vespers, Friday night, June 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at The Place. Please come and enjoy a night of worship, and a time of fellowship. We will be concluding our video and discussion about the Da Vinci Code, discussing the facts about how we got the Bible, and what it teaches us about Jesus, marriage, the role of women and Mary Magdalene.
Please come and invite your friends (they ARE talking about this!)
Community Action Day- June 3rd
The Place is participating in the annual Community Action Day - Saturday, June 3d. Many churches from our area are taking on community service projects. We have committed ourselves to at least 3 - including a beach clean-up; trail clearing; and general cleanup of a shelter for battered women. We have more information and sign up sheets at church this Sabbath. We will be doing these projects in the afternoon after church. If you are interested or need more info., please contact Pastor Simon.
Many people have already signed up...but we would still like MORE people...and that means YOU!! Seriously...I know that you care about OUR community. Let's be the church that does more than talk.
P.S. if you know how to get a gas-powered weed-eater back in working condition for use in the trail clearing, please let us know.
Upcoming Social Stuff
And, we have once again purchased tickets for the Hollywood Bowl, Fourth of July Spectacular. The tickets are for Sunday night, July 2nd at 7:30 p.m. The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is featured with special guest Kenny Loggins. Tickets are $15 for adults. We have 60 tickets, and a few children's tickets are available (2-14 years old) for $7.50. Please contact Pastor Simon to reserve your space or sign up at church this Sabbath.
Please mark your calendars for our next Social in June. We will be having a beach day on Sunday, June 25th. We will be meeting at Zuma Beach in Malibu from 11-4 p.m. (or until you would like to stay). Stay tuned for more information and details.
And-for all of you footballers (soccer in English), we will be having a world cup party in July. Stay tuned for more details!!
Mommies Ministry
As many of you know, our beloved Heather Richmund will be leaving us at the end of June. We are so sad to see her, Neil, and Jaxon go, but we are so happy for the new chapter they will embark upon.
In celebration for all they have done, we will be having a special luncheon for them the last Sabbath in June, the 24th. This potluck will be hosted primarily by the mommies ministry, but available to all church members. If you would like to bring a special dish or just help out, please contact Cecilia Liversidge via the link below.
Also, our girls night has been postponed from tonight to another night soon. Please stay tuned for more details!
Maranatha Mission Trip
Our mission trip is fast approaching. It will take place in Tijuana, Baja California the 16-23rd of July. Our group is almost full, BUT WE STILL NEED COMMITTED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS. We need your help! Our goal is to raise $20,000 for this project. It will fund the building of a new church (which we are building!) for a group of almost 200 believers.
We will be having a brief meeting this Sabbath after church to discuss upcoming fundraisers. Please keep praying for this trip and for those who are going. Please contact Pastor Simon if you or someone you know would like to donate your money or your time or to assist in fundraising.
Community Prayer-This Sabbath
You are invited to attend a special morning prayer time this coming Sabbath at 9:45 a.m. Come join us and pray over our church, and for special needs in the community. Hope to see many of you there! This will be the first of many opportunities...in fact, weekly! So, if you have the heart to bless our church by seeking God's blessing over our time of worship and to be used by God to bless others, come on out.
