The Scoop at The Place - June 15, 2006
This Week At The Place/Sabbath Morning Community Prayer TimeWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Pastor Simon will continue preaching over his new series on the book of 1 John, focused on Finding Joy. This week's sermon is titled "Praise God For Our Fathers" which covers 1 John chapter 2 verses 1-14. We will also be celebrating Father's Day together in an effort to make all of the Fathers at The Place feel loved and special-because they are!
You are invited to attend a special morning prayer time this coming Sabbath (and EVERY week!) at 9:45 a.m. before Sabbath School. Come join us and pray over our church, and for special needs in the community. Hope to see many of you there!
All Sabbath School classes will meet this week. The classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Bill Werner will be leading out in the Sanctuary class. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which will begin studying the book of Romans, and, Harley Peterson will be leading out anyone interested in music...in our music Sabbath School.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out the BRAND NEW LOOK of our church website and see the ease of navigation at www.theplacechurch.com.
We also invite your continued support of the ministry of The Place through returning your tithes and offerings. In the month of May we received $13,202 in tithe, bringing our yearly total to $61,620. We also received $6,758 towards our church budget, giving us a yearly total of $38,510. That leaves us about $7,800 behind our budget for this year. We appreciate your mindfulness of our continued need for each of our support. You may do this at The Place or by clicking on the link provided. Thanks!!

Maranatha Mission Trip
Our mission trip is fast approaching. It will take place in Tijuana, Baja California the 16-23rd of July. Our group is almost full, BUT WE STILL NEED COMMITTED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS. We need your help! Our goal is to raise $20,000 for this project. It will fund the building of a new church (which we are building!) for a group of almost 200 believers.
One of our fundraisers will take place on Saturday night, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. We will have a Benefit Dinner/Auction at the NPAA cafeteria. However, we need help in soliciting businesses for donations of goods or services to auction. We are also looking for willing church members who would like to offer services, or baked goods to auction. And-we would LOVE for everyone to attend this benefit!! We will be taking up a special offering for this trip this Sabbath. Please keep praying for this trip and for those who are going. Please contact Pastor Simon if you or someone you know would like to donate your money or your time or to assist in fundraising. Thank you.
We will also be doing some smaller fund-raisers such as a recycling old cell phones and a Baja Fresh night. Stay tuned for more details.
Nominating Committee
We have finished our work and are happy to say once again, that God is good. So many of you have agreed to participate in blessing our church, our families, and our communities. We will have the TENTATIVE nominating committee report at church this Sabbath to give people a chance to make sure the information is correct. However, there are so many ways that God is calling us to minister...if you have something that is on your heart, please contact Pastor Simon.
Mommies Ministry
As many of you know, our beloved Heather Richmund will be leaving us at the end of June. We are so sad to see her, Neil, and Jaxon go, but we are so happy for the new chapter they will embark upon.
In celebration for all they have done, we will be having a special luncheon for them the last Sabbath in June, the 24th. This potluck will be hosted primarily by the mommies ministry, but available to all church members. If you would like to bring a special dish or just help out, please contact Cecilia Liversidge via the link below. The theme will be Italian.
Our month is in full swing, and these are the activities that remain:
June 21 - Wednesday...SCHOOL'S OUT!!!!!!!!!!! We're going to have a pool party!! 10:00 am to 1:00 pm... Bring a lunch and we'll have a great time!!! It will be held at the NPAA pool and there will be a lifeguard on duty.
June 28 - Wednesday - Getty Visit!!! This time we are going no matter what!!! We will be looking into a docent led tour for the kiddies (they have special ones for little artists!!)... If you don't feel your child is ready for a docent led tour - no worries there will be
some who can just leisurely go through parts of the museum and then go to the grounds and RUN or roll down the hill!!! :) Times to be announced...
Hope you can make it to at least one of these activities (if not all of them:-) We are looking forward to sharing with you!
Bless The Army Man
We want to bless John Alcala who is in the army and currently stationed in Afghanistan. His fiance, Lilia Ochoa is presently studying with Pastor Simon. John would love to hear from us and receive care packages. So, with that said, please bring any goodies you would like to send by Sabbath, July 1st. If you would like to know exactly what to bring, please check the list of items in the red, white, and blue box located in the church lobby. If you have any further questions, please contact Cindy Schumacher via the link listed below. Thanks for your generosity!
