The Scoop at The Place - June 22, 2006
This Week At The Place/Sabbath Morning Community Prayer TimeWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Bill Werner will be preaching over the new series on the book of 1 John, focused on Finding Joy. This week's sermon is titled "How To Have Long Term Joy," which covers 1 John chapter 2 verses 15-17. We look forward to hearing Bill and his message.
You are invited to attend a special morning prayer time this coming Sabbath (and EVERY week!) at 9:45 a.m. before Sabbath School. Come join us and pray over our church, and for special needs in the community. Hope to see many of you there!
All Sabbath School classes will meet this week. The classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Sanctuary class. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which will begin studying the book of Romans, and, Harley Peterson will be leading out anyone interested in music...in our music Sabbath School.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
We also invite your continued support of the ministry of The Place through returning your tithes and offerings. In the month of May we received $13,202 in tithe, bringing our yearly total to $61,620. We also received $6,758 towards our church budget, giving us a yearly total of $38,510. That leaves us about $7,800 behind our budget for this year. We appreciate your mindfulness of our continued need for each of our support. You may do this at The Place or by clicking on the link provided. Thanks!!
Beach Day-This Sunday
Pack up your lawn chairs, beach balls, and sunblock and join us this Sunday for our second annual beach day. We will be meeting at Zuma Beach located on PCH north of Malibu. We will meet at the very SOUTH end of the beach, right near the volleyball courts! Our day will go from 11-4 p.m. (or until you would like to stay). Please bring your own lunches, however snacks and refreshments will be provided. We will also be playing volleyball together. You may park in the parking lot for approximately $6 or on the street (if you get there early enough, or are fortunate). There will be a sign up sheet this Sabbath for refreshments if you can help by bringing something...we hope to see you ALL there (and invite your friends)!
Youth "Insight" and Beach Vespers and Summer Work Opportunity
Want to have a Blast this summer and stay connected with friends ? Be a part of the "Wednesday Night Insight." Every Wednesday night, the youth will be meeting at 7:30 pm to share ideas, concerns, enjoy activities, and hang out at different locations such as the beach, around the pool, coffee shop, etc. We look forward to getting your insight.
And, the youth are having their first Beach Vespers this summer next Friday night, June 30th at Sycamore Cove at 6:30 p.m. Get ready for a great time together! For more details about "Insight" or Beach Vespers, please contact Jared Perrin at (805) 807-2795 email: neo2886@hotmail.com or Robert Nomelli at (818) 292-6143, email: robert.nomelli@ngc.com.
Calling all youth...there are employment opportunities for you to share the gospel in Southern California (there are opportunities right here in SIMI!) and earn money at the same time! Youth Rush is student Literature Evangelism opportunity using Magabooks to spread the gospel. This is also an excellent way for students to earn a scholarship averaging $3,000 to be applied to their education or used in some other way. All you need is a deep love for Jesus (you don't need to know the entire Bible), willingness to work hard, and to be at least 16 years of age...no experience is required. The program goes from June 11-August 18th. Workers will be in groups of 20 and will live and work out of a local church. The California Gold Rush is fully sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and so Fridays are designated for laundry and fun. The program provides transportation, housing, half of the meals, training, and materials. Positions available now through June 23rd. Apply on-line or contact Jason Worf at 818-434-0558 or jaworf@youthrush.org.
Richmund Farewell Luncheon-This Sabbath
As many of you know, Neil, Heather and Jaxon Richmund will be leaving California late next month. We will miss them and the blessings they have been very much. This Sabbath, we will honor the Richmunds with a farewell luncheon at The Place following services. The theme will be Italian. And, although the mommie's ministry is sponsoring the luncheon, you are welcome to bring something. The luncheon will be held in the usual spot, the fellowship hall. Please stop by and say adieu to Neil, Heather & Jaxon.
Maranatha Mission Trip
Our mission trip is almost here! It will take place in Tijuana, Baja California the 16-23rd of July. We still need your help, however! Our goal is to raise $20,000 for this project. It will fund the building of a new church (which we are building!) for a group of almost 200 believers.
One of our fundraisers will take place on Saturday night, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. We will have a Benefit Dinner/Auction at the NPAA cafeteria. However, we need help in soliciting businesses for donations of goods or services to auction. We are also looking for willing church members who would like to offer services, or baked goods to auction. And-we would LOVE for everyone to attend this benefit!!
We will have a short powerpoint presentation this Sabbath showing the needs. Please keep praying for this trip and for those who are going. Please contact Pastor Simon if you or someone you know would like to donate your money or your time or to assist in fundraising. Thank you.
We will also be doing some smaller fund-raisers such as a recycling old cell phones and a Baja Fresh night. Stay tuned for more details.
Greeter's Luncheon & other news about The Place ministries
There will be a greeter's luncheon held on Sabbath, July 1st at Erik & Alisa Kalberg's home in Simi Valley. This meeting is for individuals who are interested in becoming greeters next year, as well as for continuing greeters. We will have a chance to regroup as well as fellowship together. This will be a potluck luncheon and the theme is "Mexican" so please bring food to share. The Kalberg's address is 2244 Trinway Ave in Simi Valley.
And, our nominating committee has finished thier work and this Sabbath we will be accepting all our new "ministers" into their new positions. We would like to thank you all so much for your willingness to be involved in ministry at The Place. We also want to take some time this Sabbath to thank those who have lead out in various ministries during the past year(s), but who will be involved in other areas this coming year. This includes Heather Richmund (mommie's ministry); Joelle Vessels (prayer ministry); Rodney Andregg (Audio); Cecilia Liversidge (Social); and Denise Ramirez (Children's ministry.) Thanks so much to them and to all of you who are involved in the various ministries of The Place.
Mommies Ministry
Summer is in full swing and we have some very exciting things planned for the little ones as well as for the big ones (mommies). First, there is one more activity left for the month of June. Next Wednesday, the 28th, we will be visiting the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. This time we are going no matter what!!! We will be looking into a docent led tour for the kiddies (they have special ones for little artists!!)... If you don't feel your child is ready for a docent led tour - no worries, there will be some who can just leisurely go through parts of the museum and then go to the grounds and RUN or roll down the hill! We will be meeting at the Starbucks on Moorpark Blvd (next to Pier One Imports) at 10 a.m. so we can carpool or follow one another!
Also on the agenda is our second annual "SPA DAY" at "Spa De La Paz". Just wanted to let all of the mommies know that this is one of our greatest treats all year long. On Sunday, July 23rd, you are invited over to Denise Ramirez' home for a day of utter and complete pampering. You can come relax and sit by the pool and enjoy some of the wonderful food that will be catered for only about $10 or you may truly bask and receive a massage, facial, manicure, and/or pedicure. Manicures will run $20, pedicures $35, massages and facials $45 for 30 minutes or $70 for an hour massage or facial, or a 30 min massage & a 30 min facial for $80, or a 90 min massage and a 90 min facial for $100 or a 60 min massage & a 60 minute facial for $140. We will have more accurate pricing within the week. Please RSVP to Heather Richmund ASAP (by this Sabbath if at all possible) if you think you will be receiving any of these treatments. This will be a day you wont want to miss!!
Bless The Army Man
We want to bless John Alcala who is in the army and currently stationed in Afghanistan. His fiance, Lilia Ochoa is presently studying with Pastor Simon. John would love to hear from us and receive care packages. So, with that said, please bring any goodies you would like to send by Sabbath, July 1st (make life easy - bring them THIS week!) If you would like to know exactly what to bring, please check the list of items in the red, white, and blue box located in the church lobby. If you have any further questions, please contact Cindy Schumacher. Thanks for your generosity!
