The Scoop at The Place - June 8, 2006
This Week At The Place/Sabbath Morning Community Prayer TimeWe look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Pastor Simon will begin preaching a new series on the book of 1 John, focused on Finding Joy. This week's sermon is titled "What Do You See?" which covers 1 John chapter 1.
You are invited to attend a special morning prayer time this coming Sabbath (and EVERY week!) at 9:45 a.m. before Sabbath School. Come join us and pray over our church, and for special needs in the community. Hope to see many of you there!
All Sabbath School classes will meet this week. The classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Sanctuary class. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which will begin studying the book of Romans, and, Harley Peterson will be leading out anyone interested in music...in our music Sabbath School.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
And, if you are not able to make it to The Place this Sabbath, please remember that you always have access to the sermons on-line (we even podcast!!). Check out the BRAND NEW LOOK of our church website and see the ease of navigation at www.theplacechurch.com.
We also invite your continued support of the ministry of The Place through returning your tithes and offerings. You may do this at The Place or by clicking on the link provided. Thanks!!
Children's Church & Food Drive-This Sabbath
We will be having our monthly Children's Church this Sabbath, June 10th. Please bring your child (or other little one) to the Fellowship Hall at 11:30 for a special children's time. Music, story, craft, and snacks are included. Jen Lew will be leading out.
Also on the calendar for this Sabbath is our monthly food drive. The items that we collect are distributed to thousands of children, seniors and families in our community. They are very thankful for our donations and kindness. There will be a box by the main door this Sabbath for your contributions. Thank you for your continued support for our community. If you or your family need food assistance, contact Pastor Simon.
And, we want to thank so many of you who participated in the Community Action Day last Sabbath afternoon. It was an incredible blessing to those who participated and to the local organizations that we were able to bless, including a shelter for battered women, and the Thousand Oaks YMCA.

Maranatha Mission Trip
Our mission trip is fast approaching. It will take place in Tijuana, Baja California the 16-23rd of July. Our group is almost full, BUT WE STILL NEED COMMITTED VOLUNTEERS AND DONATIONS. We need your help! Our goal is to raise $20,000 for this project. It will fund the building of a new church (which we are building!) for a group of almost 200 believers.
One of our fundraisers will take place on Saturday night, July 8th at 6:30 p.m. We will have a Benefit Dinner/Auction at the NPAA cafeteria. However, we need help in soliciting businesses for donations of goods or services to auction. We are also looking for willing church members who would like to offer services, or baked goods to auction. And-we would LOVE for everyone to attend this benefit!! Please keep praying for this trip and for those who are going. Please contact Pastor Simon if you or someone you know would like to donate your money or your time or to assist in fundraising. Thank you.
We will also be doing some smaller fund-raisers such as a recycling old cell phones and a Baja Fresh night. Stay tuned for more details.
Upcoming Social Stuff
We have once again purchased tickets for the Hollywood Bowl, Fourth of July Spectacular. The tickets are for Sunday night, July 2nd at 7:30 p.m. The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is featured with special guest Kenny Loggins. Tickets are $15 for adults. We have 60 tickets, and a few children's tickets are available (2-14 years old) for $7.50. Please contact Pastor Simon to reserve your space or sign up at church this Sabbath.
Please mark your calendars for our next Social in June. We will be having a beach day on Sunday, June 25th. We will be meeting at Zuma Beach in Malibu from 11-4 p.m. (or until you would like to stay). Stay tuned for more information and details.
And-for all of you footballers (soccer in English), we will be having a world cup party in July. Stay tuned for more details!!
Mommies Ministry
As many of you know, our beloved Heather Richmund will be leaving us at the end of June. We are so sad to see her, Neil, and Jaxon go, but we are so happy for the new chapter they will embark upon.
In celebration for all they have done, we will be having a special luncheon for them the last Sabbath in June, the 24th. This potluck will be hosted primarily by the mommies ministry, but available to all church members. If you would like to bring a special dish or just help out, please contact Cecilia Liversidge via the link below. The theme will be Italian.
And-a new month has started and with it, LOTS of fun activities are planned for you and the little ones. This is what we have lined up for June:
June 12 - Monday - Girl's Night Out!!! - This will be the last official Girl's Night Out with Heather. Girl's night out will be held at Cecilia's home in Thousand Oaks. Dinner will be catered so you won't have to pay for anything!!! Please RSVP to Cecilia via the link below if you are planning on attending.
June 21 - Wednesday...SCHOOL'S OUT!!!!!!!!!!! We're going to have a pool party!! 10:00 am to 1:00 pm... Bring a lunch and we'll have a great time!!! It will most likely be at the NPAA Pool - but we will confirm and let you know-stay tuned!!!
