The Scoop at The Place - August 31, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week
Pastor Simon will continue preaching over his series on the book of
Jonah. This week's sermon is titled "The God Of Second Chances" and
focuses on chapter 2. There will also be special music by Brianna
Haynes. Chad Reisser will be leading praise and worship.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School
classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general
adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. We also
have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and
toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth
sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The
Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come
and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

And-we appreciate your faithful giving. You may return your tithes
and offerings at The Place or online by clicking on the link
provided.

Visitor's Luncheon-This Sabbath and Baptism and Special Luncheon next Sabbath
Our monthly visitor's luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath.
The luncheon will be hosted by Harley and Dawn Peterson. This is a
wonderful opportunity for all visitors to get to know other members
of The Place. Of course, members are invited, but please bring a
dish to share. The Peterson's are located on the NPAA campus at 187
Hilliard Lane, phone # 805-499-6266.

And, next Sabbath will be a special one as one of our youth is
getting baptized. We are so excited for Danny Fulgham and his
decision to accept Jesus as his Saviour. Please join us as we
celebrate this special time with him. The baptism and a special
fellowship luncheon will be at the Fulgham's home in Simi Valley. We
invite you to come and bring some food to share if possible.

Children's Church & Food Drive-Next Sabbath (Sept. 9.)
Every Second Sabbath is a special day for the children at The Place.
And, we are even more excited this month as next Sabbath our
children will be starting a whole new curriculum along with a new
name...The FIREPLACE! So, kids, plan on coming to the Fireplace and
check out all the new stuff.

And, every second Sabbath we also have our Food Drive at The Place.
We invite you to set aside any canned goods and non-perishable items
and bring them along.

These goods go to Food Share, Ventura County's only regional food
bank.

Food Share is also having a "Faith for FOOD Share" Weekend, Friday,
September 15 to Sunday, September 17. During the three-day campaign,
houses of worship and spiritually based groups of all faiths will
forward offerings to FOOD Share's direct hunger services. The dual
purpose of "Faith for FOOD Share" is to raise funds for food,
equipment, and food bank operations, while informing those in need
about food availability in their communities.

To become a "Faith for FOOD Share" volunteer and/or contributor,
contact Meg Horton, Volunteer Coordinator, 805-983-7100, ext 105;
Jeanne Benitez, Manager Annual Giving, 805-983-7100, ext 122. To

Ecuador Mission Trip 2007/Follow-up in Tijuana
We are already getting ready for our next mission project. Our
church has committed to build a church in Ecuador late July/early
August of 2007. If you are interested in going on next year's
mission trip, you can sign up this week at church or by contacting
Pastor Simon.

And, a small group will be going back down to Tijuana the week of
September 27-14, 2006 to do some final painting and electrical work
on the church in Otay Mesa that we built earlier this summer. If you
are interested in helping, please talk to Pastor Simon.

Discipleship Training
Get ready for the "adventure of your life." Learn how to be a
disciple of Jesus and get ready to lead an "adventure group" of your
own (if you are willing).

A new discipleship training class will begin the week of September
16th and will be held on Wednesday evenings or Sabbath mornings.
You are invited to attend one or the other. This will be a 10 week
small group led by Pastor Simon that will focus on spiritual
maturity that leads us into ministry. Please sign up at church or
with Pastor Simon.
