The Scoop at The Place - September 14, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will conclude his series on Jonah. This week's sermon is titled "The Questions Of God" and focuses on chapter 4 of Jonah. There will also be special musical response after the sermon by Tega Faka.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

And-we appreciate your faithful giving. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or online by clicking on the link provided.

Youth Big House Vespers This Friday Night

Yes, the BIG HOUSE is back! Please join us for our big house vespers tomorrow, Friday night, September 15th, at 7:00 p.m. at The Place. It will feature all the good stuff...a great band, inspiring speaker, awesome worship, and pizza for dinner! So, come on out and enjoy life in the Spirit together.

And, for those who like to get outside: we are continuing the fun on sundays with soccer at 10:00 a.m. and basketball at the NPAA gym every Sunday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm.

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath
We will be having our regular monthly luncheon this Sabbath. We invite you to come and share together following services. The young families small group will host and the theme is ethnic food (anything but American, if you can figure out what American food is.) We invite you to bring some food to share if possible, but, please plan on staying for lunch together. We look forward to seeing you there!

Mommies Ministry - Hike this Sabbath Afternoon
If you are a mommy and would like to come out and spend an afternoon with friends and nature, then plan on joining the fun this Sabbath and bring the whole family! Mommies, daddies, and children are all invited to go on a hike this Sabbath following our fellowship luncheon. We will be going to Wildwood park and hiking to the waterfall. Please plan on meeting in the parking lot at 3:30 p.m. for a mild two mile hike. From the 101 go north on Lynn Road and left (west) on Avenida de los Arboles and park in the lot closest to the school.

The ADVENTURE begins this Wednesday
Are you ready for the "adventure of your life". Learn how to be a disciple of Jesus and get ready to lead an "adventure group" of your own (if you are willing).

A new discipleship training class will begin this Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. and next Sabbath at 9:45 a.m. at The Place (it is the SAME class, so just choose the time that suits you) and will be held on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings. This will be a 10 week small group led by Pastor Simon that will focus on spiritual maturity that leads us into the adventure of ministry. Please sign up at church or with Pastor Simon.

Upcoming Events
We have another family volleyball game night planned for Saturday evening, September 23d. We will meet and play at the NPAA gym starting at 7:30 p.m.

We will have our last beach vespers of the summer on Friday evening, September 29th at our usual spot in Sycamore Cove. Please join us at 6:30 p.m.

And-we still have some tickets available for the Michael W. Smith concert coming up in October. Michael will be in concert at Calvary church in Westlake on Saturday night, the 14th of October. Tickets are $22 each. For more information, contact Sherry Jackson at 805-405-4283.

Women's Shelter Project
The Interface Women's Shelter thanks all of you who worked so hard to clean up the house in Oxnard a few weeks ago. The team had a great time cleaning up the yard, making repairs and preparing the walls to be painted. But, now is the time to mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 24th at 9:00 a.m. for the painting and planting.
If you believe in this project, but can't help with the physical labor, you can make a tax-deductible donation to Interface Children's Family, 1305 Del Norte Road, #130, Camarillo CA 93010-8366. Just mark your check "Domestic Violence Shelter - Oxnard."
For more info about the shelter, go to www.icfs.org; or for questions, contact Andrea Harlan at 805-552-7636 or andreaharlan@earthlink.net.

Mission Trip News & Ecuador Sign-ups
We are already getting ready for our next mission project. Our church has committed to build a church in Ecuador late July/early August of 2007. If you are interested in going on next year's mission trip, you can sign up this week at church or by contacting Pastor Simon.

And, a small group will be going back down to Tijuana the week of September 27-14, 2006 to do some final painting and electrical work on the church in Otay Mesa that we built earlier this summer. If you are interested in helping, please talk to Pastor Simon.
