The Scoop at The Place - September 21, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week
Pastor Simon will be starting a new series on being a disciple of
Jesus. His sermon this Sabbath is entitled, "Before the Call" and
focuses on John 1:1-18. We will also have a musical response by
Robin Shea and Ken Adams following the sermon.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School
classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general
adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for
infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes,
and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The
Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come
and pray for our church or bring your special needs.
And-we appreciate your faithful giving. You may return your tithes
and offerings at The Place or online by clicking on the link
provided.
Discipleship Adventure Training
Are you ready for the "adventure of your life"? Learn how to be a
disciple of Jesus and get ready to lead an "adventure group" of your
own (if you are willing).
Our new discipleship training classes have begun and we want you to
be a part of it! Please join us this coming Sabbath at 9:45 a.m.
for a 10 week small group led by Pastor Simon that will focus on
spiritual maturity that leads us into the adventure of ministry.
Please sign up at church or with Pastor Simon. If Sabbath mornings
do not work for you then please join us on Wednesday evenings at
7:30 p.m. for the same class.
Women's Shelter - Changed to next Sunday!
Due to the fact that the battered women's shelter still needs to do
a little more prep work, we will be going to the shelter next
Sunday, Oct. 1, instead of this Sunday. We will be painting and
planting and getting it ready for families to move in! You provide
the "elbow grease" and they'll provide the food! Meet in the parking
lot (far end) Sunday at 9 a.m. To volunteer, contact Andrea Harlan
805-551-7636
Upcoming Events
We will not be having our family volleyball night this coming
Saturday night the 23rd of September. It will be rescheduled for
Saturday night, October 7 instead.
And-please note that our last beach vespers for 2006 has been
rescheduled to next Sabbath afternoon, the 30th of September. We
will meet at our usual spot in Sycamore Cove. Please join us at 5
p.m. for food, a beautiful sunset, and wonderful worship.
We still have some tickets available for the Michael W. Smith
concert coming up in October. Michael will be in concert at Calvary
church in Westlake on Saturday night, the 14th of October. Tickets
are $22 each. For more information, contact Sherry Jackson at
805-405-4283.
Ecuador Mission Trip Sign-ups
We are already getting ready for our next mission project. Our
church has committed to build a church in Ecuador late July/early
August of 2007. If you are interested in going on next year's
mission trip, you can sign up this week at church or by contacting
Pastor Simon.
Mommies Ministry
Our mommies, daddies, and children had a wonderful time last Sabbath
hiking. We hope to see more of you in the future!
We have one more mommy activity planned for this month. Our monthly
"Girl's Night Out" is scheduled for the last Thursday of the month,
the 28th of September. All mommies are invited to Alisa Kalberg's
home for a game night, snacks, dessert, and hot drinks. We hope
that you will be able to make it...the fun will start at 6:30 p.m.

Wedding Gift For The Peabody's
On July 9th two of our dear members Michael Peabody and Danielle
Martinez were wed in Malibu. Unfortunately, we were never able to
give them a wedding shower as they live in Sacramento. However, we
will be taking donations so that we can present them with a gift
certificate from the members of The Place. Michael and Danielle
will be visiting us on Sabbath, October 7th. If you are interested
in donating to the group gift, please contact Cindy Andregg at
805-376-1115 or via the link provided below. Thank you for your
generosity.
