The Scoop at The Place - September 7th, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you this Sabbath at The Place. This week Elder Bill Liversidge will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon will focus on the book of Jonah, chapter 3. The children (from children's church) will be singing our response song!

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

And-we appreciate your faithful giving. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or online by clicking on the link provided.

Youth Big House Vespers NEXT Friday Night (but not beach vespers)
Yes, the BIG HOUSE is back! It will be next Friday night, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at The Place. It will feature all the good stuff...a great band, inspiring speaker and awesome worship...not to mention FOOD! So, come on out and enjoy life in the Spirit together.
Sadly, due to too many scheduling conflicts, there will not be Beach Vespers this Friday night.
But, for those who like to play basketball...remember the NPAA gym is open every Sunday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm.

Baptisms & Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath and our regular Fellowship Luncheon next Sabbath
This Sabbath will be a special one as we celebrate the baptisms of Danny Fulgham and Kathrine Managat. We are so excited for both of them and their families as they declare publicly their faith in Jesus Christ and join us as members of The Place. Please join us as we celebrate this special time with them. The baptisms and a special fellowship luncheon will be at the Fulgham's home in Simi Valley following church. The Fulgham's are located at 359 Golden Moss Court, Simi Valley (in Wood Ranch) 805-584-9193. We invite ALL of you to come and bring some food to share if possible. Directions will be available at The Place.

And, just a reminder that we have our regularly scheduled Fellowship Luncheon after church next Sabbath, September 16th. We invite you to come and share together following services. The young families small group will host and the theme is ethnic food (anything but American, if you can figure out what American food is.)

Children's Church & Monthly Food Drive-This Sabbath

Every Second Sabbath is a special day for the children at The Place. And, we are even more excited this month as this Sabbath our children will be starting a whole new curriculum along with a new name...The FIREPLACE! So, kids, plan on coming to the Fireplace and check out all the new stuff. Class will meet at 11:30 in the Fellowship Hall.

And, every second Sabbath we also have our Food Drive at The Place. We invite you to set aside any canned goods and non-perishable items and bring them along.
These goods go to Food Share, Ventura County's only regional food bank.
Food Share is also having a Faith for FOOD Share Weekend, Friday, September 15 to Sunday, September 17. During the three-day campaign, houses of worship and spiritually based groups of all faiths will forward offerings to FOOD Shares direct hunger services. The dual purpose of Faith for FOOD Share is to raise funds for food, equipment, and food bank operations, while informing those in need about food availability in their communities.

To become a Faith for FOOD Share volunteer and/or contributor, contact Meg Horton, Volunteer Coordinator, 805-983-7100, ext 105; Jeanne Benitez, Manager Annual Giving, 805-983-7100, ext 122. To learn more about FOOD Share, visit www.foodshare.com.

Ecuador Mission Trip 2007/Follow-up in Tijuana
We are already getting ready for our next mission project. Our church has committed to build a church in Ecuador late July/early August of 2007. If you are interested in going on next year's mission trip, you can sign up this week at church or by contacting Pastor Simon.

And, a small group will be going back down to Tijuana the week of September 27-14, 2006 to do some final painting and electrical work on the church in Otay Mesa that we built earlier this summer. If you are interested in helping, please talk to Pastor Simon.

Discipleship Training
Get ready for the "adventure of your life". Learn how to be a disciple of Jesus and get ready to lead an "adventure group" of your own (if you are willing).

A new discipleship training class will begin the week of September 16th and will be held on Wednesday evenings or Sabbath mornings. You are invited to attend one or the other. This will be a 10 week small group led by Pastor Simon that will focus on spiritual maturity that leads us into ministry. Please sign up at church or with Pastor Simon.

Women's Shelter - September 24

The Interface Women's Shelter thanks all of you who worked so hard to clean up the house in Oxnard a few weeks ago. The team had a great time cleaning up the yard, making repairs and preparing the walls to be painted. But, now is the time to mark your calendars for Sunday, Sept. 24th at 9:00 a.m. for the painting and planting.
If you believe in this project, but can't help with the physical labor, you can make a tax-deductible donation to Interface Children's Family, 1305 Del Norte Road, #130, Camarillo CA 93010-8366. Just mark your check "Domestic Violence Shelter - Oxnard."
For more info about the shelter, go to www.icfs.org; or for questions, contact Andrea Harlan at 805-552-7636 or via the link provided below.
