The Scoop at The Place - October 19, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week
Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon is
titled "The Commitment of Discipleship" which will focus on Matthew
chapter 10 and is the fourth in Pastor Simon's series on
discipleship. There will also be a video clip about commitment
filmed and edited by Ralph Figueroa.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School
classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general
adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for
infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes,
and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The
Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come
and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

And-we appreciate your faithful giving. During the month of
September we received $20,632 in tithe, bringing our yearly total to
$127,180. This is approximately $23,000 more than last year at this
time!! We also received $11,004 in giving to our local church
budget, bringing our yearly total to $84,844. This is also
significantly more than last year at this time, and puts us right
about even with our church budget so far this year. Thank you for
your faithful support. You may return your tithes and offerings at
The Place or online by clicking on the link provided.

Friday Night Film Vespers-This Friday Night
We will have our next vespers this Friday night, October 20th
(tomorrow night) at The Place. We will start at 7 p.m. and we'll be
watching "End Of The Spear". This is a great film about
missionaries in Ecuador who focused on their commitment to sharing
the gospel with unreached people even at the cost of their lives.
There will be refreshments and a time for sharing afterwards. Please
come out and join us and bring a friend! One caution...this film may
not be suitable for very young children.

Monthly Fellowship Luncheon-This Sabbath
Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this coming
Sabbath. This week the small group that meets at Aaron and Denise
Ramirez' home will be hosting a soup, salad, and bread luncheon. We
invite you to stay after services to enjoy a delicious lunch with
us...and bring a friend! If you can bring a dish to share, that
would be appreciated. Our luncheon will be held in the fellowship
hall.

Baby Shower for Lucero Diaz-granados This Sunday
One of our members, Lucero Diaz-granados recently gave birth to a
bouncing baby boy on September 25th. Herman and Lucero Diazgranados
are ecstatic about the new addition to their household, little
Andres Alonso. You are invited to celebrate with Lucero this Sunday
at Cecilia Liversidge's home. Lucero's shower will start at 10 a.m.
Cecilia's address is 1727 Calle Artigas in Thousand Oaks and Lucero
is registered at Babies R'Us. Please come and share in their joy.

Fall Fest-In Two Weeks!
Coming up on Saturday night, October 28th is our annual Fall Fest.
This year's celebration will be held in the NPAA cafeteria starting
at 6:30 p.m. Please come dressed in your favorite retro gear as
this year's theme will be the 70's. We will have a pumpkin carving
contest as well as karaoke for kids of all ages. Our dinner menu
will be soups, cornbread, and dessert. But...we need you to help us
with this by signing up to bring something. You can sign up to
bring soup, cornbread, or dessert this Sabbath in the lobby.

Our Fall Fest is one of our church's highlights of the year and will
include our very own Fall Fest Band!! Please plan on coming out and
enjoying this truly festive time together!!

Mommie's Ministry
Our monthly scheduled "Girl's Night Out" is fast approaching. If
you are a mommy then you are invited to come out for a night with
the girls next Thursday evening, October 26th. We will be meeting
at P.F. Chang's at The Lakes at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and a name
exchange. If you are interested in participating in the christmas
gift exchange, please come and fill out your card with a list of
your preferences. If you are unable to make it on Thursday, please
contact me at href="mailto:cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com">cecilialiversidge@hotmail.com
so that I can make sure you are in the loop. This year's Christmas
party for the mommies is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, December
3rd at Denise Ramirez' home. We will be cooking together and then
feasting!!! We hope you can make it!

And-if you haven't given our mommy of the month, Tami Hartman, a
call yet...what are you waiting for? She only has a few more weeks
of pampering left. Tami's number is 449-0076.

Youth Update
We are so happy to announce that Bre Nomelli had agreed to be our
new youth leader for this coming year! Bre is currently attending
Moorpark College and has been very involved with our youth in the
past. If you a high school or academy student, you will be hearing
from her. If you have ideas for ministry or fun, please share them
with her. Her phone # is 805-807-0581.

Discipleship Group
Our Discipleship group continues to meet on Wednesday nights and on
Sabbath mornings. If you are interested, please contact Pastor
Simon. And, for those of you who are not involved in a community
yet, we have various small groups that meet on a weekly basis. If
you have not tried one yet, what better time to celebrate the
holidays?! Check out the groups on line at www.theplacechurch.com
