The Scoop at The Place - December 14, 2006

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will conclude his series on Discipleship. This week's sermon is titled "The Going Disciple". It will focus on the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20. There will also be a children's story before the sermon.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

Youth Big House Vespers-This Friday Night
The youth will be having a Youth Big House Vespers this Friday night (that's tomorrow night) at The Place. The Big House will begin at 7 p.m. and Mr. Stephen Nelson will be the guest speaker. Steve Jackson will be leading a band of wonderful musicians! It will be a great night full of praise and worship, food and a social. Hope to see you all there!

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath
We will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon this coming Sabbath, December 16th. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall following church services for a wonderful baked potato, soup, and salad lunch hosted by the Mommies Ministry. We invite you to bring food to share if possible and stay for the fellowship!

Christmas Toy Drive-Concludes This Sabbath
As we are approaching Christmas we would like to remind all of you of the many needy children in our community. We will be concluding our toy drive this Sabbath. Please bring an unwrapped gift (please attach the Christmas tag or specify if it is for a boy or girl as well as age) to church this Sabbath. You can bring unwrapped gifts even if you did not take a name tag off our Christmas tree. There will be a box in the lobby for the gifts that will go to the needy children of Ventura County. Thanks so much for your help!

Christmas Caroling This Sabbath Afternoon
You are invited to join us for Christmas Caroling this Sabbath following immediately following our fellowship luncheon. We will be singing at the Simi Valley Hospital in the Rehab area (the north wing). Please meet at 3:30 p.m. Directions: from the 118 exit and go north on Sycamore Dr. The north wing is just north (go figure) of the main hospital! Come and join us as we brighten up the lives of some of the patients!

Mommies Ministry Community Outreach-This Sunday
This Sunday (Dec. 17) the Mommies Ministry group will be getting together for a community outreach project to service the battered women's shelter in Oxnard. Since the Oxnard location does not yet have occupants, we will be going to the location in Simi Valley. The mommies group will be meeting at The Figueroa home (1693 Branch Ave., Simi Valley; # 805-583-2154) at 10 a.m. to decorate Christmas cookies and then will head over to the women's center to deliver the cookies as well as Christmas gifts and food items for several needy families. Some of the items that are still needed are gift certificates between the amounts of $10-15 from grocery stores for the various families. Christmas Communion Vespers-Next Friday Night (and a Special Christmas Program next Sabbath for church.)
Next Friday night, December 22nd, we will be having a very special Christmas communion vespers. Our night will begin at 7 p.m. at The Place. Come celebrate the Christmas holiday with Christmas carols, time in the Word, and communion followed by light refreshments and snacks. This will be a special time together to celebrate with one another and to remember the reason for the season...JESUS!
We would also like to invite you to intite your friends to our special Christmas program at The Place next Sabbath (Dec. 23) during our church service. We will have our own Christmas band; drama; special music with Shearin Matute; Alexandra Randall; Matt Fowler and our children, as well as a dramatic reading and more! This is a great opportunity to invite a friend to come and worship and experience the joy of Christmas at The Place.

CAES Concert This Saturday Night
We would like to invite you to the CAES Christmas Concert and Dinner this Saturday Night, December 16th. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and will be served in the NPAA cafeteria.

Tickets are available at CAES for dinner before the concert. Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $6 for children. There will be a free concert in NPAA's chapel at 7:00 PM. For more info contact the officeat 805 498-2391.
