The Scoop at The Place - December 28, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. Pastor Simon will be speaking about Christmas. His sermon is titled "Which Mary, Which Lord?" and focuses on the story of Mary in Luke 1.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.
Visitor's Luncheon-This Sabbath
Our next visitor's luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, December 30th immediately after our service. This luncheon is designed for all visitors and new members. All members are, of course, welcome as well, but we invite you to bring food to share. This week's hosts are Deane and Elvina Wolcott. The Wolcott's are located at 3216 Casino Drive in Thousand Oaks, phone #805-492-7180. We hope to see you there.
Year End Giving
As the year comes to an end, we invite your continued support of The Place. We have many ministry needs, particularly our support for our worthy students and needy families and our mission work, as well as our church budget needs. We are also committed to continuing to bless our community. We thank you so much for your support of The Place in 2006 and we invite your continued generosity. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or on-line at www.theplacechurch.com. But, please remember that for your donation to count towards 2006 for tax purposes, it must be received by December 31st.
Adventure Groups
Since the conclusion of our Discipleship class, Pastor Simon has been meeting with our disciples regarding new adventure groups. These groups are premised on doing something you enjoy, but with the intention of inviting new believers. Some of the groups we will be starting include such simple things as hiking, surfing, scrap-booking, current events discussion and much more. They are an opportunity to get a group of people together on a regular basis in spiritual community, but with the intention of inviting others. We will be signing up to join a group beginning on January 27th. But, we are still looking for leaders with ideas. If you have an idea for an adventure group, please talk to Pastor Simon.
Happy New Year
It is hard to imagine, but we are about to welcome in 2007. We at The Place could not be more excited about what God has done in our families, our church and our community during 2006 and we look forward with great anticipation to many more reasons to praise God in 2007. We invite your prayers for us as a church and for our community. We seek a passionate love for Jesus and for our neighbors. And, we are continually excited about possibilities...and that means you. If God has put an idea in your mind, we would love to hear from you and to help make it happen. On behalf of The Place, we wish you and all your family a Happy New Year and we look forward to seeing you and celebrating with you. God bless.

Health Ministry in Ventura County?
The Thousand Oaks SDA Church is interested in beginning a Ventura County-wide healthy ministry and is inviting the participation of all local SDA churches, including The Place. Ideas include renting kiosks at local malls for health presentations, etc. and partnering with local agencies and Simi Valley Hospital to further healthful living in our community. There will be a meeting of those interested in partnering to further these ideas on Sunday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. If you are interested in being a representative for The Place, or have other similar ideas, please talk to Pastor Simon. We would love to be able to share in this ministry.
