The Scoop At The Place - December 7th, 2006
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will continue his series on Discipleship. This week's sermon is titled "The Risky Disciple." It will focus on Matthew chapter 25 verses 14-30, the parable of the talents. Steve Jackson will be leading us in worship and there will be special music by Lynette Rubio.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.
Youth Events-This Friday & The Next
Take out your calendars...there are several fun activities planned for the youth in the month of December!
First, there will be a youth Christmas party this Friday night, December 8th at the Nomelli's home. The Nomelli's are located at 1151 Sycamore Drive in Simi Valley. Come enjoy a night of yummy food, games, and a movie.
Also, there will be a Youth Big House this month. Save the night of December 15th, next Friday night. The Big House will begin at 7 p.m.at The Place and Mr. Nelson will be the guest speaker. It will be a great night full of praise and worship, food and a social. Hope to see you all there!
Children's Church This Sabbath
This Sabbath we will be having our monthly children's church. Please bring your little one to the fellowship hall at 11:30 a.m. for an hour of fun learning about Christ through music, story, craft, and snacks. This month's leader is Meg Quilop.
A note to let everyone know that there will not be a food drive this month. We look forward to continuing our food drive in the new year.
Christmas Toy Drive-Starting This Sabbath
As we are approaching Christmas we would like to remind all of you of the many needy children in our community. We will be starting a toy drive this Sabbath. Please bring an unwrapped gift (please attach the Christmas tag or specify if it is for a boy or girl as well as age) to church this Sabbath, December 9th. There will be a box in the lobby for the gifts that will go to the needy children of Ventura County. Thanks so much for your help!
The Place Progressive Christmas Party-This Saturday Night
We hope you can join us for this special event scheduled for this coming Saturday night from 5-9 p.m. We have 3 host families, Liversidge, Peterson and Bachmann, that have graciously agreed to open their homes.
We will be starting the evening at 5pm with Appetizers/Salads at the Liversidge's. Our next stop will be at the Peterson's at 6 p.m. where we will enjoy Entrees/Pastas. We will wrap up the evening over Hot Drinks/Dessert at the Bachmann's starting at 7 p.m. Maps will be provided on Sabbath for your reference.
Don't forget to bring an ornament (one per family) for the ornament exchange at the Bachmann's. For those that are interested, bring your video camera and record a special holiday song along the way. We will be viewing the movie clips at the end of the evening and vote on the most creative and talented entries.

Fellowship Luncheon & Christmas Caroling-Next Sabbath
We will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon next Sabbath, December 16th. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall following church services for a wonderful baked potato, soup, and salad lunch hosted by the Mommies Ministry.
And-following our luncheon, you are invited to go Christmas Caroling. We will be singing at the Simi Valley Hospital in the Rehab area (the north wing). Please meet at 3:30 p.m.
Prayer Requests
As we near Christmas time, we are reminded of all the wonderful gifts in our lives. And yet, we are also reminded of the great need that we still have in many areas. Whether you need spiritually, financially, emotionally, or physically, the prayer team is ready to pray for you. Small Groups
As you will hear this Sabbath, Pastor Simon will be preaching about taking risks as a risky disciple. As we get ready to start a new year, perhaps you are ready to take a spiritual risk in your life and join a small group or start a new one. If you are interested in making a commitment in either of these areas, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
