The Scoop at The Place - January 11, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Elder Rob Randall will be preaching at the Place. Rob's sermon is titled "While We Were Yet Powerless" and focuses on Romans chapter 5. Xavier Lemond will be sharing a special music with us. And, Steve Jackson is leading us in praise.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.

We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

Children's Church this Sabbath and Volleyball This Saturday Night
Our monthly Children's Church is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, January 13th. Children's Church is a great opportunity for the young ones to learn about Christ through lesson, music, and craft. Please bring your little one to "The Fireplace" located in the fellowship hall starting at 11:30 a.m. for an hour of fun. Jeremy Bachmann and friends will be leading out.

You are all invited to come out and play volleyball this coming Saturday night. The NPAA gymnasium will be open at 7 p.m. for us to play games and spend time together. Bring some friends and come join the fun!

Congratulations to the Liversidge Family!
Pastor Simon and Cecilia are so happy to announce the birth of their baby girl, Mia Ariane. Mia was born on Wednesday, January 10th and weighed 7 lbs 6 oz and was 20 1/4 in. long. (and, of course, incredibly beautiful!) We praise God for the miracle of life and look forward to all of you meeting her very soon!

Food Drive & Blanket Drive-This Sabbath
This Sabbath we have our monthly food drive. Every month we collect canned items as well as diapers, wipies and formula for needy families in Ventura County. Please bring your donations to church and place them in the box marked "food drive" located in the lobby this Sabbath.

We are also planning a home made blanket drive, in support of seriouly ill children in Ventura County. This project is called "Project Linus". Project Linus is a nonprofit organization who's mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."

If you would like to participate by making a blanket, we will have a box by the door, to collect hand made blankets until Sabbath, February 11th. The blankets must be washable. The blankets that we donate will be distributed to hospitals, family organizations and fire departments throughout Ventura County. If you have any questions, contact Cindy Schumacher - Cindy6359@msn.com or Sandy Duarte - brimic4514@aol.com.

Adventure Groups and Placers Softball Team
Since the conclusion of our Discipleship class, Pastor Simon has been meeting with our disciples regarding new adventure groups. These groups are premised on doing something you enjoy, but with the intention of inviting new believers. Some of the groups we will be starting include such simple things as hiking, surfing, scrap-booking, current events discussion and much more. They are an oppportunity to get a group of people together on a regular basis in spiritual community, but with the intention of inviting others. We will be signing up to join a group beginning on January 27th. But, we are still looking for leaders with ideas. If you have an idea for an adventure group, please talk to Pastor Simon.

And, for those who would like fun and fellowship while playing together...we are going to field a softball team this spring. Our hope is to have a co-ed team; however, that will all depend on who is interested in playing. So ladies WE NEED YOU! Likewise, the day of the week on which we will play will depend on the team’s make-up. More details can be found on the sign-up form on the back table at church on Sabbath. If you have any interest please sign up using the form at church or you may contact Fred Harlan (805-990-0578 or fwh-igt@earthlink.net). Play begins March 4.

Men's Ministry/ Mommies Ministry & Nanny Request
The men's ministry will be meeting one Sunday night a month starting in January. This is a great opportunity for the guys to get together and have some manly man time. This month's meeting night is scheduled for Sunday, January 21st at the home of Frank and Doris Fulgham. Stay tuned for more details.

And as for the mommies...with a new year under way, the mommies ministry is looking forward to many new and wonderful experiences together. First and foremost, this month's mommy of the month is Makalah Fausset. This month is Makalah's turn to be loved and pampered (especially since her little baby is due at the end of the month!). If you have not signed up to spread some TLC her way, please contact Alisa Kalberg at ACKalberg@aol.com. If you would like to give Makalah a call, you can reach her at 499-0944.

Also on the agenda for this month is our regularly scheduled Girl's Night Out. Please join us on Thursday, January 25th-for dinner and a movie at the Westlake Promenade. We'll meet at 6 p.m. in front of Champagne bakery and grab a light dinner and then head over for a movie. Please save the date...it should be a great time together!

Also, please know that we are planning some new things for this new year including regular women's devotional time, weekend retreats, and lots of activities for mommies, mommies and kids, and the entire family! Please stay tuned for more details!

Also, a family in the local area is in need of a nanny. A Christian family in Ventura is looking for a Christian nanny to work full time M-F in their home looking after their infant son. If you or anyone you know might be interested, please contact Sherri at 805-643-3437.

Fellowship Luncheon Next Sabbath
Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for next Sabbath, January 20th. April Fowler is hosting and the theme is Italian food. If you can help by bringing a dish, please let April know @ 805-523-8489. Please join us following church services next week.

Upcoming Concerts
Contemporary Christian Artist Stephanie Pauline will be in concert at The Place on Saturday night, January 27th. This concert will be co-hosted with The Vineyard Church. We invite you to come and share an evening together and enjoy her music. The concert is free...so please invite your friends. Check out her music at stephaniepauline.org.

Also in concert soon will be Mercy Me and AudioAdrenaline. These two bands are scheduled to be in concert on Friday night, March 2nd in Santa Barbara. But, we need to buy tickets soon if you are interested. Please sign up in the lobby or with Pastor Simon if you are interested in attending this concert.
