The Scoop At The Place - January 18th, 2007
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will begin a new series on the book of John. This week's sermon is titled "The Godhead" and focuses on John chapter 1.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.
Blanket Drive
We are currently working on a home made blanket drive, in support of seriouly ill children in Ventura County. This project is called "Project Linus". Project Linus is a nonprofit organization who's mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
If you would like to participate by making a blanket, we will have a box by the door, to collect hand made blankets until Sabbath, February 11th. The blankets must be washable. The blankets that we donate will be distributed to hospitals, family organizations and fire departments throughout Ventura County. If you have any questions, contact Cindy Schumacher - Cindy6359@msn.com or Sandy Duarte - brimic4514@aol.com.
Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath
Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, January 20th. Please join us after church services. April Fowler is hosting and the theme is Italian food. If you can help by bringing a dish, please let April know @ 805-523-8489 or just bring one! And, plan on staying and sharing in the food and fellowship this Sabbath.
Men's Ministry - this Sunday
To all men, wild at heart (or not). Join us for the first Men's ministry event of the new year this Sunday, January 21st. Please come join the fun at Frank and Doris Fulgham's home located at 359 Golden Moss Court in Simi Valley, 805-584-9193. We'll be kicking off the activities at 3:30 p.m. with the Colts Patriots AFC Championship game (on the big screen HD), along with pool, darts, cards, etc. If you can't make it that early, feel free to come later for plenty of fun, fellowship, and food. (seriously...we were going to start at 6, but thought some of you might like to watch the game together, so please feel free to come later on...we will be there!)
Upcoming Concerts
Contemporary Christian Artist Stephanie Pauline will be in concert at The Place on Saturday night, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. This concert will be co-hosted with The Vineyard Church. We invite you to come and share an evening together and enjoy her music. The concert is free...so please invite your friends. Check out her music at stephaniepauline.org.
Also in concert soon will be Mercy Me and AudioAdrenaline. These two bands are scheduled to be in concert on Friday night, March 2nd in Santa Barbara. But, we need to buy tickets soon if you are interested. Please sign up in the lobby or with Pastor Simon if you are interested in attending this concert.
Ecuador Mission Trip 2007
We finally have a site...it is a town called Chapulo, about 1 1/2 hours north of Guayaquil. We will be building a church there, and doing a few days of siteseeing afterwards. The approximate dates for the whole trip are August 1-12, 2007. If you are ready to make your commitment, we are ready to take it. We are asking for a $100 deposit by the end of January so that we can begin making air reservations. Please email or call Pastor Simon for questions or to confirm. This will once again be an awesome time of mission and fellowship, and some fun too!
Softball Sign-Up
For those who would like fun and fellowship while playing together...we are going to field a softball team this spring. Our hope is to have a co-ed team; however, that will all depend on who is interested in playing. So ladies WE NEED YOU! Likewise, the day of the week on which we will play will depend on the team’s make-up. More details can be found on the sign-up form on the back table at church on Sabbath. If you have any interest please sign up using the form at church or you may contact Fred Harlan (805-990-0578 or fwh-igt@earthlink.net). Play begins March 4.
Financial Update for 2006
Once again, we would like to thank all of you for your continued support of The Place and our mission during 2006. In December we received $30,811 in tithe, giving us a yearly total of $180,356. This was approximately $10,000 more than we received during 2005. This tithe supports our local conference, our pastors and teachers and world mission. Thank you for that.
In December, we also received $25,986 in giving to our local church budget and about $4,000 in other giving to our church for specific projects. This gave us a total of $131,753 in giving to our church budget during this past year (our budget was $127,241 for the year.) We also received about $20,300 more in giving to The Place for specific projects (not counting the $35,859 for the Mexico Mission Project last summer.)
Thank you so much for your continued support of The Place and our mission. We count it a privelege to grow together as a community of faith. We invite your continued support of The Place and our mission during 2007. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or on-line at tithe.theplacechurch.com.
