The Scoop at The Place - February 8, 2007
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This week Pastor Simon will continue his sermon series on the book of John. This week's sermon is titled "Jesus vs. Indiana Jones" which focuses on chapter 2. There will be special music given by Khari Washington and the children from "The Fireplace" will be blessing us in song as well. Following the service, we will have our Cafe open and opportunity to sign up for adventure or small groups.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. Our Sabbath School classes meet at 10:30 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans.
We also have the "Little Place" with Sabbath School classes for infants and toddlers, kindergarten aged children, earliteen classes, and youth sabbath school. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.
The Fireplace Children's Church-This Sabbath
The Fireplace is scheduled for this coming Sabbath, February 10th starting at 11:30 a.m. The Fireplace is our children's church and is a full hour of fun for the little ones where they can learn about Christ through lesson, songs, and craft. We invite you to bring your little one to this special time each month. This month's leader is Jennifer Lew.
Blanket Drive (Due by This Sabbath) & Urgent Food Need
We are currently working on a home made blanket drive, in support of seriously ill children in Ventura County. This project is called "Project Linus". Project Linus is a nonprofit organization who's mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
If you would like to participate by making a blanket, we will have a box by the door, to collect hand made blankets. However, this coming Sabbath (February 10th)is the LAST DAY to donate any blankets. The blankets must be washable. The blankets that we donate will be distributed to hospitals, family organizations and fire departments throughout Ventura County. If you have any questions, contact Cindy Schumacher - Cindy6359@msn.com or Sandy Duarte - brimic4514@aol.com.
Also, due to record cold temperatures, Ventura County has suffered record crop damage...which also leaves local farm workers out of work and with no resources! Food Share in Oxnard is serving as a collection point for corn flour, dry beans, rice, diapers and financial donations. Financial donations are the most helpful as Food Share can buy at bulk at huge discounts. We will be collecting food supplies THIS Sabbath, February 10 as part of our monthly FOOD DRIVE. But, you may make financial donations at any time. Simply mark your check "emergency farm worker assistance ventura county." Thanks for your Godly response.

You have been hearing a lot about our adventure groups. New Sabbath Schools
We have a new kindergarten sabbath school that began last week. This class is designed for 4-6 year olds. If you have any items for donation such as throw pillows, area rugs, or other items that might make it cozy for the new group, please contact the coordinator, Doris Fulgham at 818-216-6748. They will be having fun with the great stories of the Bible. We are excited about this new opportunity for our kids!
Another class that has recently begun is a new Sabbath school for young adult ages focusing on Doctrines with Pastor Simon. The class will start at 10:30 a.m. Please contact Pastor Simon for more details. But, if you are interested in Bible Studies or have questions about the Bible, this is the place for you.
And, we are excited to be starting another new adult Sabbath school class starting next Sabbath, February 17th, with Arla Caraboolad as facilitator. It will be a relational study of 1st John, and will be meeting in the Mother's Room during Sabbath School time. Arla is a gifted teacher and you will be blessed by this class!
