The Scoop at The Place - March 22, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue his series on John. This week's sermon is titled "The Power of the Word" and focuses on the end of chapter 5 through 6:15...the feeding of the 5000. Aaron Doyle will be leading praise and worship. The Cafe will be open following church services...this week's host is Dawn Peterson.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon, and a relational class facilitated by Arla Caraboolad that meets in the Mother's room and starts at 10:15 a.m. Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

We also invite you to remember our church finances as you return your tithes and offerings. God is faithful to his promises. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or on-line.

Volleyball Night This Saturday Night
This coming Saturday night, March 24th, we have our regularluly scheduled volleyball night. We will be playing at the NPAA gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. We hope to see many of you there! If you have been waiting to have fun...why wait any longer?!

Whale Watching Trip This Sunday
There will be a whale watching trip this Sunday, March 25th. We have made a group reservation...but, you need to sign up to reserve your place. The trip will leave from Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard and go from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. They have been seeing whales every day and we are taking the afternoon tour as that is the best time to see the whales. Group tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for over 55; and $15 for under 15. Kids under 3 are free. For more details, please contact Caleb Guevara @805-796-7035. There will be a sign up sheet in the lobby this Sabbath.

Beach Vespers & New Associate Pastor?
The Place is about to hire an associate Pastor to focus on youth, young adults and worship leading. You are invited to come and meet one of the two people that we are considering to be our new youth pastor. Steve Carlson and his wife Daisy will be with us next weekend, and they will be leading worship at The place on March 31st. But, you are invited to meet them the night before at our first beach vespers for 2007.

Our first beach vespers will take place next Friday night March 30th from 5:30 p.m - 8:00 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Please come and stay for the food, fellowship, and fun! If you have questions, or can help by bringing a dish to share, please contact Pastor Simon.

Visitor Luncheon and Hike Next Sabbath
There will be a visitor's luncheon next Sabbath, March 31st. This is an opportunity for all visitors and new members to better acquaint themselves with other members of The Place. This month's luncheon will be hosted by Deane and Elvina Wolcott. All members are welcome, we just ask that you bring some food to share.

Also on the calendar for next Sabbath is a family hike sponsored by the Mommies ministry. The mommies invite other mommies and all the rest of the family to a hike at Wildwood Park next Sabbath, March 31st. We will be meeting in the parking lot off of Avenida De Los Arboles at 3:30 p.m. for a mild hike.

Easter Weekend
We have a very special Easter celebration planned for the entire Easter weekend beginning on Friday night, April 6th. On Friday night April 6th, we invite you to join us for vespers and communion at The Place starting at 7 p.m. On Sabbath we will have a wonderful Easter program celebrating Jesus. And, we will conclude the weekend on Sunday morning with a special morning service, breakfast, and an egg hunt for the little ones at Dos Vientos Park in Newbury Park. Our "sunrise service" starts at a very civilized 9:00 a.m.

The other candidate for associate pastor, Aaron Roche will be with us for the entire Easter weekend, leading praise and worship on Sabbath morning, April 7th.

Placers Find Bright Spots in Loss
The Placers experienced their first defeat of the season, finding themselves on the wrong end of a lopsided score on Sunday. Assistant Manager, Fred Harlan, reflected on the loss by stating, “A Placers’ loss is like when my wife goes shopping – it doesn’t happen very often but when it does the end result really hurts.” Despite the disappointment, the team had several bright spots to build on: they played competitively in all but one inning; Ashley Peterson played 2nd base fantastically; Aaron Ramirez was solid in center; and Carly Lopez had a great hit in her first at bat of the season. Come watch the Placers rebound this Sunday at 6:15 at Borchard Park in Newbury Park.

The Adventure Continues
Yes, the adventure has begun and the adventure groups are ready to go. They are fellowship groups based on interests you are passionate about, and designed to be a place to invite your unchurched friends and neighbors. Some of groups have already started. If you are still not sure if you would like to get involved, take a look at the list of possibilities: basketball; soccer; snowboarding; cross-stitch; scrapbooking; guitar and bass; beauty; surfing; hiking; reflexology; hot flashers; mommies; entrepreneurs, AND snowboarders! You may still sign up in the lobby.
Almost all the groups have begun...but there are two yet to go. The indoor soccer will start Sunday, April 1st at 8:00 p.m. in the NPAA gym, and the Scrap-bookers, led by Kathy Roth are also beginning in April.

You can see all our groups and sign up on-line at http://www.theplacechurch.com/adventuregroups.asp.
Remember, we want your participation...but we also encourage you to make this a place where you can invite your friends who don't yet know Jesus!!
