The Scoop at The Place - March 29, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue his series on John. This week's sermon is titled "The Bread of Life" and focuses on John 6 and the nature of man. Steve Carlson will be leading praise and worship. Ken Adams and friends will have a special music.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon, and a relational class facilitated by Arla Caraboolad (but Arla is gone this week...so her class won't meet.)

Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

We also invite you to remember our church finances as you return your tithes and offerings. God is faithful to his promises. You may return your tithes and offerings at The Place or on-line.

Beach Vespers THIS Friday night - come meet Steve and Daisy Carlson
The Place is about to hire an associate Pastor to focus on youth, young adults and worship leading. You are invited to come and meet one of the men we are considering to be our new youth pastor. Steve Carlson and his wife Daisy will be with us this weekend, and Steve will be leading worship at The Place this Sabbath. But, you are invited to meet them this Friday night at our first beach vespers for 2007.

Our first beach vespers will take place this Friday night March 30th from 5:30 p.m - 8:00 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Please come and stay for the food, fellowship, and fun! If you have questions, or can help by bringing a dish to share, please contact Pastor Simon.

Visitor's Lunch This Sabbath after Church
There will be a visitor's luncheon THIS Sabbath, March 31st following our church service. This is an opportunity for all visitors and new members to better acquaint themselves with other members of The Place. This month's luncheon will be hosted by Deane and Elvina Wolcott. They live at 3216 Casino Dr. in Thousand Oaks (805-492-7180.) All members are welcome, we just ask that you bring some food to share. And, this will be another opportunity to meet Steve and Daisy Carlson...so if you miss out on Friday night and would like to meet them, please come and share in this time together. Directions will be available at The Place.

Family Hike this Sabbath Afternoon
This Sabbath afternoon at 4:00 p.m. we have a family hike sponsored by the Mommies ministry. The mommies invite other mommies and all the rest of the family (so, if you are alive, you are invited) to a hike at Wildwood Park this Sabbath, March 31st. We will be meeting in the parking lot off of Avenida De Los Arboles at 4:00 p.m. for a mild hike. Directions: go north on Lynn Road from the 101 and turn left on Avenida de los Arboles. When the road turns sharply right, you will see the parking lot/trailhead on the left.

Congratulations to Brian and Stacy Campagna
The Place would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Brian and Stacy Campagna on the birth of their new baby daughter, Gracelyn Brooke Campagna. Gracelyn was born on March 19th at Los Robles Hospital and was 7lbs 4oz. Big sister Chloe is very proud of the new addition to the family...as is the entire Cano clan! God bless you all.

Easter Weekend - Communion Friday Night and Sunday "Sunrise" Service
We have a very special Easter celebration planned for the entire Easter weekend beginning on Friday night, April 6th. On Friday night we invite you to join us for vespers and communion at The Place starting at 7 p.m. It will be a special time of reflection.

On Sabbath we will have a wonderful Easter program celebrating Jesus, complete with special music, drama and a message about rest and restoration.
And, we will conclude the weekend on Sunday morning with a special "sunrise" service, breakfast, and an egg hunt for the little ones at Dos Vientos Park in Newbury Park. Our "sunrise service" starts at a very civilized 9:00 a.m.

The other candidate for associate pastor, Aaron Roche will be with us for the entire Easter weekend, leading praise and worship on Sabbath morning, April 7th.

New Placers Shine in Latest Victory
The Placers expanded to their “40-man roster” on Sunday and returned to their winning ways in the process, defeating St. Patrick’s 13-10. The Placers saw the season debuts of Annette Siver and our new friend Tiffany Herrera. Both played outstandingly in center field and left field, respectively. The victory was a true team effort as everyone contributed at the plate, allowing Robert Nomelli to advance his record to 2-0 after another solid performance on the mound. You have just one more opportunity to catch the Placers before Spring Break, so come out this Sunday at 5:00 at Borchard Park in Newbury Park.

Be adventurous
Our adventure groups continue to be adventurous and are meeting new people and starting new friendships. This Sunday night (April 1) the indoor soccer adventure group begins at 8:00 p.m. in the NPAA Gym. If you like to play soccer, come along and invite a friend.

You can see all our groups and sign up on-line at http://www.theplacechurch.com/adventuregroups.asp.
Remember, we want your participation...but we also encourage you to make this a place where you can invite your friends who don't yet know Jesus!!

And, don't forget our mission trip. The group is big, and the cost is not small...so, we invite you to support our mission trip to Ecuador this summer, August 1-12...we will be building a church in the village of Chapulo. Many of you have already been supporting us financially, and we appreciate that support so much.

Likewise, some of you have been asking about James Appel and his wife Sarah and their hospital in Bere, Chad. They need your prayers desperately. They are on vacation right now and we hope to see them out this way, but the hospital has been under serious spiritual attack and needs your prayer support. Thanks.
