The Scoop at The Place - April 19, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath, Pastor Simon will be preaching. This week's sermon is titled "The Truth Shall Set You Free" and focuses on the Great Controversy, looking at John chapter 8 verses 31-59. We also look forward to having Dean Palacio lead us in worship and special music by Shearin Matute. We will also be having a special video this week featuring some of the children from The Place that you will not want to miss!

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon, and a relational class facilitated by Arla Caraboolad, starting at 10:15 a.m.

Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church or bring your special needs.

And, finally, we appreciate your financial support of The Place and our ministry. If you would like to return your tithes and offerings, you may do so at The Place or on-line by clicking on the link. We are excited about what God is doing in our church, and particularly excited to be hiring an associate pastor...if you are interested in helping to financially support this new venture, we would greatly appreciate it.

This year the annual ACTION Day will be on June 2. ACTION Day is a day when Christians unite together to impact their communities by showing God's love in creative and practical ways. The Place participated last year, with 40+ churches in Ventura County. We helped clean up trails, beaches, fixed a volleyball court for the YMCA and began work on the battered women's shelter that we are still helping with! This year we will also have a variety of projects to participate in. There will be sign up sheets in the lobby on May 5th. If you would like to be a team lead for a certain project or if you know of a need in our community, contact Cindy Schumacher at Cindy6359@msn.com or (805) 579-9557.

Mission Trip Ecuador 2007
This summer members of The Place will be going on a mission trip to Ecuador, where we will be building a church in a village called Chapulo. We are beginning to do some fundraising and are planning a garage sale for early June. If you have items that you could donate, we will be ready to start collecting soon.

Also, we have been challenged by a generous member of The Place...he will match the other church members for $5000!!! So, together, if we can support The Place mission project by giving together to give $5000 towards it, one of our members will MATCH! What a blessing! Consider yourselves challenged.

And, on a different mission front, on Sabbath, April 28th James and Sarah Appel will be here as James will be sharing about their mission work in Tchad...dont miss out.
