The Scoop at The Place - May 17, 2007
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath our youth leader, Walter Hamlin will be preaching at The Place and Chad Reisser will be leading the praise time. We will be voting Megan Hamlin and Gillian Nielsen into membership at The Place due to baptisms. Gillian was baptized last Saturday night and Megan will be baptized this Sabbath afternoon.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon. However, there will be no relational class (Arla's class) this week.
Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. Come and pray for our church and especially for Chris Simafranca who was in a car accident this past Monday with her son, as well as Robin Atmore who was in a motorcycle accident last Sabbath. Chris Simafranca is still in the hospital and Robin Atmore is recovering at home. If you are unable to attend this Sabbath's prayer time, we would still appreciate your special prayers for them.

Community Action Day-June 2nd
This year the annual ACTION Day will be on June 2. ACTION Day is a day when Christians unite together to impact their communities by showing God's love in creative and practical ways. We will be participating with 65+ churches in Ventura County. This year the annual ACTION Day will be on June 2, but the projects The Place will be involved in are on May 20th, June 2nd and June 3rd. This year we have 3 projects:
1. May 20th - We need 2 - 3 volunteers to help a single mom with landscaping at her home in Newbury Park
2. June 2nd - We need 10 to 20 volunteers to wash windows in 70 classrooms at Sycamore Canyon School in Newbury Park
3. June 3rd - Continue helping at the battered women's shelter
There are sign up sheets for the different projects in the lobby this Sabbath. If you have any questions or would like to be a team leader, please email Cindy Schumacher at Cindy6359@msn.com or call at (805) 579-9557.
Placers Scorch Bag Burners
The Placers softball team took the field last week looking for redemption and revenge. Their only loss of the season came at the hands of Bag Burners the last
time the two teams met. The Placers found what they were looking for with a 9-3 victory. This time it was The Placers who set the bases on fire. Branon Shea set
the pace offensively, hitting a triple, double, and single; Annette Siver had another multiple hit game; Fred Harlan hit a triple; while Robert Nomelli, Aaron
Ramirez and Kevin Siver all had key hits. Jolene Roeske, who was brought up from The Placer’s minor league affiliate at Oaks Christian, knocked in an insurance
run. Nomelli strengthened his bid for the league’s Cy Young award by turning in yet another magnificent effort on the mound. He was backed up mightily by a
strong defensive front led by the superlative play of Shea at short. Come cheer on the Placers this Sunday at 5:00 at Borchard Park in Newbury Park.
Ministry Opportunties & Financial Update
This Sabbath we will once again have an interest sheet listing all the different possible ministry opportunities at The Place. If you are involved currently, or would like to be involved in any ministry, we invite you to fill out one of these interest sheets. If you have questions about any ministry, or have your own idea for a new ministry, please talk to Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.
We are just beginning the process of ensuring that all our ministries are filled for the coming year (our church officer year runs annually from July 1st.) So, we would love to hear from EACH of you!
Thanks for your willingness to be a real blessing to our church family.
We continue to be blessed by your faithful giving. In April we received $10,639 in tithe, which goes to the Southern California Conference. That gives us a total of $54,441 for the year so far.
We also received $13,350 towards our local church budget. That brings us to $39,246 for the year...and leaves us just slightly behind our church budget for the year. Thanks for that.
We encourage you to challenge God to be faithful as well! We are about to bring on our new associate pastor, and that will raise our church budget by about 50%. We believe that this addition will be an incredible blessing to our church and our community, but we ask you to consider this faith venture and join us in this step as you return your tithes and offerings.
