The Scoop at The Place - May 24, 2007
This Week At The Place- Happy Memorial DayWe wish you a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue preaching over the book of John. This week's sermon is on chapter 10 and is titled "The Shepherd's Voice." There will be special music by Xavier Lemond and Ralph Figueroa will be leading praise and worship. We will also thank those who have served our country.
We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon.
Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Arla's class will not be meeting this week. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m.
We encourage you to challenge God to be faithful as well! We are about to bring on our new associate pastor, and that will raise our church budget by about 50%. We believe that this addition will be an incredible blessing to our church and our community, but we ask you to consider this faith venture and join us in this step as you return your tithes and offerings.
To do so, you may click on the link below or return these gifts at The Place.
Beach Vespers-This Friday Night
This month's beach vespers is scheduled for this coming Friday, May 25th. We will be meeting in our usual spot at Sycamore Cove at 5:45 p.m. Dinner will be provided. Please join us for a wonderful time together complete with a gorgeous sunset, praise and worship, and a time of sharing.
Community Action Day-Next Saturday & Battered Women's Shelter on Sunday
This year the annual ACTION Day will be on June 2. ACTION Day is a day when Christians unite together to impact their communities by showing God's love in creative and practical ways. We will be participating with 65+ churches in Ventura County. This year the annual ACTION Day will be on June 2, but the projects The Place will be involved in are on June 2nd and June 3rd. This year we have 2 projects, one on Sabbath and then one on Sunday. On Sabbath, we need 10 to 20 volunteers to wash windows in 70 classrooms at Sycamore Canyon School in Newbury Park. If you are interested in being a part of this outreach program, please arrive at The Place this Sabbath by 8:30 a.m. There will be a continental breakfast of donuts and drink and then a group departure and you'll be back by 11 a.m. (just in time for church).
On Sunday, June 3rd, we will continue our previous work at the battered women's shelter.
If you have any questions or would like to be a team leader, please email Cindy Schumacher at Cindy6359@msn.com or call at (805) 579-9557. There will be a sign up sheet at The Place this Sabbath as well. Thanks for your service to our community.
Ministry Involvement
We are blessed to have various active ministries at The Place as well as active volunteers who devote so much of their spare time to the church. However...we are always looking for more enthusiastic people who would like to be involved in ministry of any variety. Please contact Pastor Simon if you would like to participate in any area of ministry or if you have ideas for new ones.
Ecuador Mission Trip - Fundraiser
The Place is planning a mission trip this summer to Ecuador to build a church. There will be a meeting after church services, June 2nd to discuss several important matters. This meeting is necessary for anyone planning to go on the trip.
We are also planning a garage sale fundraiser on Sunday, June 17th. We will be ready next Sabbath to start collecting your donations for the sale. We invite you to take some time to clean out your garage and assist us in raising money for this worthy project.
Placers Win In Stunning Comeback
The Placers showed what they are made of as they mounted a spectacular comeback in the final inning of what proved to be this season's most exciting game. The bats had been quiet most of the night and The Placers found themselves trailing 6-3 after six innings. Down but never out, The Placers dug in deep and came out swinging. Aaron Ramirez and Kevin Siver singled. Carly Lopez knocked in Aaron with her second hit of the game. Jerry Bokoles singled to score Kevin, while Carly was thrown out at third for the second out. Sandy Werner beat out an infield single which allowed Jerry to score the tying run after an errant throw. Harley Peterson hammered a triple to score Sandy with the go ahead run. Three outs is all that laid between The Placers and victory. After giving up a lead off single, the defense sealed the deal beating St. Patrick's 7-6. Speaking of defense, Sandy Werner played an impressive second base and catcher Ashley Peterson caught a critical pop foul that ended a St. Patrick's rally.
Small Groups & Adventure Groups
Summer is right around the corner and a perfect time to join a small group or adventure group if you haven't already. If you enjoy being in a community and studying the word, or if you are interested in doing something different, we have several small groups and adventure groups that meet in your area. Or, if you would like to start a new group, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300. You can check out the small groups and even sign up for adventure groups on-line at www.theplacechurch.com.
Future Events
We are planning our annual outing to the Hollywood Bowl this summer for the Fourth Of July Extravaganza. The fun is scheduled for Tuesday night, July 3rd starting at 7:30 p.m. This year's special guests are "Riders In The Sky". Tickets are $24 for adults and $12 for children. If you enjoy beautiful music, getting out with friends, and an awesome fireworks show, please sign up this Sabbath in the lobby.
