The Scoop at The Place - June 14, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you at The Place this Sabbath. We wish all of you wonderful Dads a very special Father's Day. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue preaching over the book of John. This week's sermon is on chapter 13 which will focus on communion and we will also be sharing in the bread and wine together. We look forward to praise and worship lead by Marc Judd and there will be special music given by Julia Salerno. We invite you to bring a friend this weekend and come prepared for worship!

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. In addition to our cradle roll, primary. earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m., we have several new classes including a new kindergarten class for 4-6 year olds, a young adult class with Pastor Simon.

Rob Randall will be leading the general adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Arla Caraboolad is also leading a relational class focusing on 1 John will be meeting again this week. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m.

Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath
We will be having our monthly fellowship luncheon this coming Sabbath, June 16th. We invite you to join us following church services for an afternoon of fellowship and food. Please bring your food to share as this month's theme is general and no particular small group is hosting. We look forward to time with with you.

The Adventure Continues - Hike this Sabbath
Our adventure groups are in full gear. If you haven't been on an adventure lately, then we invite you to join one soon! This weekend the hiking group will be going on a local hike. If you would like to come out and enjoy a mild walk with friends, then please join us this Sabbath at 4 p.m. at Wildwood Park...the trailhead is just west of Lynn Road on Avenida De Los Arboles.

Also meeting this weekend is the indoor soccer adventure group. The group meets on Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. for indoor soccer fun at NPAA.

If you would like more information on adventure groups, please contact Pastor Simon at 805-498-2300.

Game Night-Next Saturday Night

Upcoming Events
There will be a beach vespers & baptism on Friday night, June 29th at Sycamore Cove. We will be celebrating Carly Lopez' decision to commit her life to Christ.

The following night, (Saturday, June 30) the Vineyard Church has invited us to participate in their BBQ/Movie night starting at 5 p.m. We will be viewing a powerful film, "Facing The Giants" together at 6 p.m. Please sign up this Sabbath or next if you would like to share in the BBQ (it is free) or if you would like to have child care during the film. The Vineyard is generously inviting us to come and share this evening with them...so, let's do it!

Also, we still have some tickets left for the Hollywood Bowl Fourth Of July Spectacular on July 3rd. If you are interested, please contact Pastor Simon. Tickets are $24 for adults and $12 for kids.

Ministry Opportunities - we need you
We are so blessed at The Place to have so many of you involved in our ministry - both in our church and in our community. But, as we are almost concluding our nominating committee process, we still have several areas of need. Please contact Pastor Simon if you have any interest in participating: in Cafe Ministry; Children's Church; as a Deacon; in Fellowship Lunches; as a Greeter; or in our Video ministry (running the video portion of our service.) These are areas of special need, but of course, we would love to have you participate in ANY area of ministry!! Just let us know.

Mission Trip Fundraiser - Garage Sale
The Place is planning a mission trip this summer to Ecuador to build a church. As our trip is less than two months away, we are in the proces of raising money for this trip. We are planning a garage sale fundraiser on Sunday, July 1st (please make a note of the new date). We are NOW ready to start collecting your donations for the sale. We invite you to take some time to clean out your garage and assist us in raising money for this worthy project. If you have any items to donate, you may bring them to church or contact Pastor Simon or Walter Hamlin.

Financial Update for May and Pledges for our new pastor
Once again we would like to thank you for your support of The Place and our ministry. During the month of May we received $10,554 in tithe, giving us a total of $64,995 for 2007 so far. All of the tithe goes to our local Southern California Conference.
We also received $6,680 towards our church budget in May...giving us a total of $45,926 for 2007. This leaves us only a few thousand dollars behind our church budget for 2007 so far.

But, to keep this in perspective, we have just hired our new Associate Pastor, Steve Carlson, who will be starting here on July 1st. In order to pay for his salary, we will have to come up with about $5,500 a month as part of our church budget (this is BEYOND what we budget now!) This will raise our monthly church budget about 50%. NONE of this amount is coming from tithe or from our local conference. It is ALL coming from our local giving here at The Place - money that is given towards CHURCH BUDGET. By faith, we absolutely believe that God will bless us greatly. But, we ask for your faith and your financial commitment as well in this process. This Sabbath we will have financial pledge cards at The Place. We are asking, if you are willing, that you commit whatever amount God puts on your heart to contribute monthly towards our new pastor. Even if the amount is small...we would love to have your regular commitment to help us in this way. We invite you to pray over this decision.

You may return your tithes and offerings by clicking on the link or at The Place. Thanks so much for your faithfulness.
