The Scoop at The Place - December 19, 2007

This Week At The Place/Merry Christmas!!!
We would like to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas. We look forward to celebrating this joyous Christmas holiday with you this Sabbath at The Place.

This Sabbath we have a special Christmas program planned. Our theme "Twas The Night After Christmas" will include a sermonette given by Pastor Simon, a children's story by Cecilia Liversidge, the leading of Christmas carols by Chad Reisser, musical numbers by Alexandra Randall, Courtney Crook and Laura Jacobsen, Matt Fowler & Robin Shea, Xavier Lemond, Shearin Matute, Jabari Washington, as well as the children's choir from the Place. There will also be a drama with Aaron & Rebecca Altman and Walter Hamlin..and more! We invite you to stay after church for snacks and refreshments as the Cafe will be open.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. If you have any old DVD's or CD's that you would like to donate to our newly forming children's media library, we would be very appreciative! The media library would give children an opportunity to view and/or listen to different movies and music and then return them for other ones. Please contact Lilian Alves @310-948-6476.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.

Friday Night Vespers & Communion This Week
We will be having our special Christmas vespers this Friday night, December 21st at The Place starting at 7:30 p.m. Please come and celebrate the Christmas season with us. Ralph Figueroa will lead our praise band as we share the Christmas story together and celebrate the birth of our Savior. We will also be celebrating communion together. Refreshments and snacks will also be served after services. We look forward to seeing you!

Youth and Young Adult - Ski Day
The youth and young adult small groups are taking a break during the holidays and will start again in the new year. But, there is something to look forward to...there will be ski/snowboard day at Big Bear Mountain on Wednesday, January 2d. Please contact Pastor Steve to sign up or for more details.

Christmas Giving
During this holiday season, we thank you so much for your continued generosity and faithful tithing and donations. We are now using a new online donation program through Adventistgiving.org. This new program does not charge us a fee, so, please feel free to return your donations online to The Place. As we approach the end of the year, we want to remind you that this is your last chance to donate any monies and receive a tax deduction. We have several areas of need: our associate pastor fund, our needy family fund, and our worthy student fund. Thank you again for your faithfulness!

You may return your tithes and offerings online by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.)

In November we received $11,850 in tithe, giving us a total of $160,727 for the year. We also received $11,736 in giving towards The Place, for a total of about $164,000 for the year. Thanks so much for your support! God bless.

Prayer 24/7
For those of you who are not in the know, The Place has begun a new prayer ministry that goes 24/7. Our goal is to have someone praying for our church community and special needs and requests on an ongoing 24/7 basis. If you would like to sign up, please do so in the lobby this Sabbath. Thanks! And, of course, we invite you to pray for our church, our members, and our community. In particular, please pray for those who are looking for jobs during this time.

And, for those of you who enjoyed Hilary Watson's music a few Sabbath's ago and purchased her CD, please don't forget to contact Brendon or Jennifer Lew with the $10. Thanks.

There is also a new small group that has started this week. The group meets on Wednesday nights at Donna Goldman's home in Camarillo. Please contact Robin Atmore @805-901-4866 if you are interested. And, don't forget there are many more weekly small groups and opportunities for fellowship! Don't miss out.

Focus 2008
There are lots of new things planned for the new year. There will be a ten week discipleship class starting in January with Pastor Simon focusing on "Learning To Let God's Word Speak To You". You may sign up with Pastor Simon or at The Place.

There will also be a six week class starting in January with Bill Werner on - "Learning Your Spiritual Gifts & How To Get Involved in Ministry".

And, there will also be a seminar on prayer and overcoming temptation and spiritual warfare with Ray Beeson scheduled for the first week in February.

Baptisms
We are so happy to announce that we have three baptisms scheduled for Sabbath, January 12th. It is a blessing to welcome new members to our Place and to continue to grow together in God's spirit. If you are interested in studying the bible or in getting baptized, please contact Pastor Simon or Pastor Steve.

Book Inserts
For those of you who took a colored 6X6 card to write a positive inspirational message or note for Erik Kalberg, please bring it to church this weekend (December 22) and give them to Heidi Figueroa, Cecilia Liversidge or turn it in at the basket provided. We want to make sure that everyone is able to express their hope and prayers for Erik. These cards will be placed in a book and given to the Kalberg family for Christmas.

If you have not yet picked up a colored 6X6 card, you will have an opportunity to write a message this Sabbath and then turn it in at the basket provided the same day (December 22nd).
