The Scoop at The Place - December 27, 2007

This Week At The Place
We look forward to celebrating the last Sabbath of 2007 with you this week. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon is titled "The Indescribable Gift" and focuses on the gift of Jesus in 2 Corinthians chapter 9. This week Aaron Doyle will be leading praise and worship.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. If you have any old DVDs or CDs that you would like to donate to our newly forming children's media library, we would be very appreciative! The media library would give children an opportunity to view and/or listen to different movies and music and then return them for other ones. Please contact Lilian Alves @310-948-6476.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.

Baptisms Next Month
We are so happy to announce that we have three baptisms scheduled for Sabbath, January 12th: Donna Goldman, and Jim & Rosa Brewster. It is a blessing to welcome new members to our Place and to continue to grow together in God's spirit. The baptisms and monthly fellowship luncheon will take place at Jenny Kay Dappalonia's home in Newbury Park. If you are interested in studying the bible or in getting baptized, please contact Pastor Simon or Pastor Steve.

Happy New Year & A Focus on 2008
We would like to wish you and yours a Happy New Year. As this year comes to an end, we want to thank so many of you who have contributed in one way or another to the The Place during 2007. Your time, creativity, offerings, and presence have made such a difference. We look forward to growing as a community in Christ in 2008.

To help make 2008 a fantastic year of spiritual growth, we have some new things planned for the new year. There will be a ten week discipleship class starting in January with Pastor Simon focusing on "Learning To Let God's Word Speak To You". You may sign up with Pastor Simon or at The Place.
There will also be a six week class starting in January with Bill Werner on - "Learning Your Spiritual Gifts & How To Get Involved in Ministry".

And, there will also be a seminar on prayer and overcoming temptation and spiritual warfare with Ray Beeson scheduled for the first week in February.

Youth & Young Adult Ski Trip Day
The youth and young adult small groups are taking a break during the holidays and will start again in the new year. But, there is something to look forward to...there will be ski/snowboard day at Big Bear Mountain on Wednesday, January 2nd, from 5am - 10pm. The group will leave from the Newbury Park Academy Parking Lot. YOU MUST BE SIGNED UP IN ADVANCE TO HAVE A SPOT RESERVED, AS WELL AS A SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP! The cost is $53 per/person. Please contact Pastor Steve if you need more information @ 805.657.6979.

Prayer 24/7
For those of you who are not in the know, The Place has begun a new prayer ministry that goes 24/7. Our goal is to have someone praying for our church community and special needs and requests on an ongoing 24/7 basis. If you would like to sign up, please do so in the lobby this Sabbath. Thanks! And, of course, we invite you to pray for our church, our members, and our community. In particular, please pray for those who are looking for jobs during this time.

And, for those of you who enjoyed Hilary Watson's music a few Sabbath's ago and purchased her CD, please don't forget to contact Brendon or Jennifer Lew with the $10. Thanks.

End Of Year Giving
During this holiday season, we thank you so much for your continued generosity and faithful tithing and donations. We are now using a new online donation program through Adventistgiving.org. This new program does not charge us a fee, so, please feel free to return your donations online to The Place. As we approach the end of the year, we want to remind you that this is your last chance to donate any monies and receive a tax deduction. We have several areas of need: our associate pastor fund, our needy family fund, and our worthy student fund. Thank you again for your faithfulness!

You may return your tithes and offerings online by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.)

Thanks so much for your support! God bless.
