The Scoop at The Place - February 7, 2008

This Week At The Place
We look forward to worshiping with you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place. This week's sermon is titled "Joseph At War" and goes over the story of Joseph in Genesis 40. This week Steve Jackson will be leading praise and worship. We invite you to stay and spend some time following church services as there will be refreshments and snacks following church services.

This Sabbath will be the last opportunity to make any changes/corrections to the directory...please stop by and make sure your information is updated. Thanks!

We will have Children's Church this Sabbath starting at 11:30 a.m. This month's leader is Jennifer Lew.

We invite you to Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.

And, we have a new on-line giving program. This new program does not charge us a fee, so, please feel free to return your tithes and offering donations online to The Place by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.)
Thanks so much for your support! God bless.

Community Service Project
Be a mentor through the Fostering Hope Program. There are approximately 1,000 children currently living in foster care in Ventura County. Fifty to ninety of these foster children will “age out” of the foster care system annually (reach the age of 18). A mentor can assist a foster youth during the transition from being in a foster care system that often makes decisions for them to making their own decisions about finding a job, managing finances or finding an affordable place to live. Without a mentor, many of these young people will end up in the state correctional system. As a mentor you will commit to spending two to three hours each week with your young adult.

You can find out more about this rewarding opportunity by going to http://www.actionvc.org/fosteringhope.php or contact Joyce Thomsen at October5@aol.com. We hope that this would provide a tremendous blessing in our community.

Church Business Meeting
There will be a church business meeting next Wednesday night, February 13th at The Place in our Fellowship Hall. If you are interested in knowing the "business" of the church we invite you to come next Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. for our annual church business meeting. We will discuss our plans for The Place, our church membership, and church finances. If you have questions about The Place or ideas for our ministry, this is your opportunity to ask or share your opinion!

Fellowship Luncheon-Next Sabbath
Our monthly fellowship luncheon is scheduled for next Sabbath, February 16th. We invite you to stay after church services for the food and fellowship and to bring a dish if possible. This month's theme is "My Favorite Dish" and you may bring the dish as well as a recipe to share with others.
