The Scoop at The Place - March 20, 2008

This Week At The Place/Happy Easter!
We look forward to worshiping with you this coming Easter Sabbath. There will be a special Easter program this Sabbath focusing on "The Dangerous Truth of The Resurrection" based on Matthew, chapter 28. Pastor Steve will be leading worship this week and there will be special music by Shearin Matute, Robin Shea, and Randy Aybar. There will be a drama with Aaron and Rebecca Altman, a children's story given by Clif Patten and a homily by Pastor Simon. We invite you to stay after services as the Cafe will be open with refreshments and snacks.

We invite you to attend Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.

And, we invite you to support the ministry of The Place financially. During February we received $13,304 in tithe and $7,424 towards our church budget. This gives us $21,472 in tithe for the year, and $16,436 towards our church budget and our Associate Pastor. Since our monthly local budget is about $16,000 per month, you can see that we need help in our local church budget. You may return your tithes and offering donations online to The Place by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.) Thanks so much for your support! God bless.

Easter "Sunrise" Service this Sunday
You are invited to come and share a special "sunrise" service as we celebrate our resurrected Lord this coming Sunday morning at 9 a.m. @ Dos Vientos Park off Lynn Road in Newbury Park. (Take Lynn up the hill past Reino and Las Brisas...the park is on the corner of Lynn and Via Andrea, on the right side.) The service will be immediately followed by the baptism of Noemi Gomez and Giovanna Alves across the street at The Ramirez' home (4431 Paseo de la Paz, N.P.) We will eat brunch together and have a special time of worship and reflection on the risen Jesus. We also invite all parents to bring an Easter basket to use for the children's Easter Egg Hunt as well. Please sign up in the lobby or with Jona if you can bring food to share for our Sunday Sunrise Service.

Get Involved @ The Place/ Chile Mission
The Place is starting its annual nominating committee process. Even though it sounds kind of yucky...it is actually pretty cool...because it is our attempt to give everyone of you an opportunity to be involved in ministry at The Place. This ministry can take many forms...from small groups to leading Bible studies; setting up chairs to preparing food for our Cafe; helping with audio-visual to teaching Sabbath School. Whatever you are interested in, there is a place for you! In the next few weeks we will have sheets to fill out for you to indicate areas of ministry you are interested in...or you would like training in. We are the body of Christ...and we need all the parts to work well together. Get involved!

One way to get involved is with our annual mission trip. This year we are building a church outside the town of San Felipe, about 50 miles north of Santiago, from August 6-18. We have made plane reservations…and need to give a $100 deposit for each seat. If you have signed up and are planning on going on the mission trip, please get your deposit to Pastor Simon to reserve your place...or sign up on the sign up sheet in the lobby. Write your check to The Place, but please let Pastor Simon know you are coming!!

Mommies Ministry
This month's mommy of the month is Marisa Allen. Marisa has requested special prayers for her family. Since Marisa lives in Santa Paula, it won't be easy to deliver meals. If you would like to sign up to send Marisa and her family a gift card or anything else, please contact Alisa at ACKalberg@aol.com.

This month's remaining events are:
Wednesday, March 26th: The Lakes for play time and a show starting at 10 a.m.
Thursday, March 28th: Girl's Night Out to Taverna Tony's Greek Restaurant in Malibu, please RSVP to Cecilia.
