The Scoop at The Place - April 17, 2008
This Week At The Place/ Financial UpdateWe look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath Elder Bill Liversidge will be preaching on John 15. This week's sermon is titled "The Power of The Spirit". Bill is the president of Creative Growth Ministries and an international speaker...and also known as "Simon's dad."
This week Dean Palacio will be leading praise and worship.
We will also have a baby dedication for Asher Adams, as we celebrate with Ken and Alicia and their family.
We invite you to attend Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m. Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed!
You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.
In March we received $14,621 in tithe, giving us a total of $36,093 for 2008 (tithe goes directly to the Southern California Conference.) We also received $12,740 in giving towards our local church budget; $1,100 to our Associate Pastor Fund and $2,328 towards our worthy student fund. This gives us a total of $27,211 for 2008 towards our church budget and just over $5,000 in other local giving for The Place. Our monthly budget is about $16,000. We appreciate your support of The Place and our ministry. You may return your tithes and offering donations online to The Place by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.) Thanks so much for your support! God bless.

Church Camping Trip & Mission Trip To Chile - We need YOU!
Mark your calendars as we will have the the first annual Place Camping Trip to Carpinteria State Beach the weekend of May 9-11th. We have two group camp sites and we invite everyone to come! This is a WHOLE church camping trip. We will not be having church at The Place that Sabbath, but will be having church at the camp site on the beach! You may sign up this Sabbath or with Pastor Simon!! More than 70 people have already signed up to camp for the weekend...but we would love everyone to camp with us (not just drive up on Sabbath!)
We are planning our annual mission trip for this August and there is still ROOM for you! This year we are building a church outside the town of San Felipe, about 50 miles north of Santiago in Chile, from August 6-18. We have made plane reservations…and need to give a $100 deposit for each seat. Due to higher airline costs the total cost for the trip is around $1600. But, we are going to be fundraising as a church to help cover those costs. We need a few more people to come and help us accomplish our project. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pastor Simon.
Get Involved in Ministry!
The Place is in the process of filling our ministry positions for next year...but, we want you to be part of our ministry! Please fill out one of the ministry interest sheets at The Place this Sabbath or contact Pastor Simon or Pastor Steve. We would love to hear back from you about your interests and ideas. If you have a crazy idea about ministry in our community or our church we would love to talk! Even if your interests are more normal, we would love to have you involved. But, we would love to hear from ALL of you!
Beach Vespers Next Sabbath Afternoon
Summer is coming and we want to celebrate the warm weather in style You are invited to our first beach vespers next Sabbath, April 26th at Sycamore Cove. Please come and meet us at 5 p.m. Picnic food will be served, but if you can help by bringing a dish to share (we will have our usual hot dogs), we would love it! There will be a time of worship and sharing, prayer and fellowship. Everyone is welcome...and bring a friend.
