The Scoop at The Place - April 24, 2008

This Week At The Place/ Financial Update
We look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath. This Sabbath the Redwood Adventist Academy Michaelangelo Players are presenting a drama entitled, "Almost Heaven." The presentation will include various musical numbers. This week Pastor Steve Carlson will be leading praise and worship. We also invite you to stay after the service as our Cafe is open...stay and enjoy the refreshments and fellowship.

We invite you to attend Sabbath School this week. We have children's Sabbath Schools for all ages, including our cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, and youth Sabbath school classes that meet at 10:30 a.m.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading the adult Sabbath school which is studying the book of Romans. Stop by and be blessed! This class will meet in the "Little Place" this week due to set-up for the drama.

You are also invited to attend our community prayer time at The Place every Sabbath before Sabbath School starting at 9:45 a.m. If you would like to pray for our church and our community or if you would like to be prayed for, we invite you to come and share in this powerful time together.

In March we received $14,621 in tithe, giving us a total of $36,093 for 2008 (tithe goes directly to the Southern California Conference.) We also received $12,740 in giving towards our local church budget; $1,100 to our Associate Pastor Fund and $2,328 towards our worthy student fund. This gives us a total of $27,211 for 2008 towards our church budget and just over $5,000 in other local giving for The Place. Our monthly budget is about $16,000. We appreciate your support of The Place and our ministry. You may return your tithes and offering donations online to The Place by clicking on the link (or, of course, at The Place.) Thanks so much for your support! God bless.

TAKING’ IT TO THE STREETS community serve weekend: An exciting opportunity to work with other area churches to demonstrate God’s love to our community through service projects scheduled for Sabbath and Sunday May 31 and June 1. We will be visiting residents at Thousand Oaks Health Care Center and working on landscaping for CAES. If you have a need or know of someone in need, we are looking for a couple more service opportunities for our church. To volunteer, SIGN UP TODAY! There are sign up sheets on the back table. If you have suggestions or questions, please contact Joyce Thomsen (805 377-8892 or email october5@aol.com).

Church Camping Trip - Sign up this Sabbath
You are invited to the first annual Camping Trip to Carpinteria State Beach the weekend of May 9-11th. Our theme for the weekend is "It's our Turn" and will focus on Jesus' call to us. We have two group camp sites and we invite everyone to come! This is a WHOLE church camping trip. We will not be having church at The Place that Sabbath, but will be having church at the camp site on the beach! You may sign up this Sabbath or with Pastor Simon!! More than 75 people have already signed up to camp for the weekend...but we would love everyone to camp with us (not just drive up on Sabbath!)

This Sabbath we will have a poster with all the camping sites and invite you to sign up for your site!!

Get Involved in Ministry!
The Place is in the process of filling our ministry positions for next year...but, we want you to be part of our ministry! Please fill out one of the ministry interest sheets at The Place this Sabbath or contact Pastor Simon or Pastor Steve. We would love to hear back from you about your interests and ideas. If you have a crazy idea about ministry in our community or our church we would love to talk! Even if your interests are more normal, we would love to have you involved. But, we would love to hear from ALL of you!

Mission Trip to Chile
We are planning our annual mission trip for this August and there is still ROOM for you! This year we are building a church outside the town of San Felipe, about 50 miles north of Santiago in Chile, from August 6-18. We have made plane reservations…and need to give a $100 deposit for each seat. Due to higher airline costs the total cost for the trip is around $1600. But, we are going to be fundraising as a church to help cover those costs. We need a few more people to come and help us accomplish our project. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pastor Simon.

Upcoming Stuff/ People looking for rooms
There are a few things you can sign up for at the Place that are coming up this summer:
