The Scoop at The Place - May 15, 2008

This Week At The Place
We look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath back at our church, The Place. This Sabbath Pastor Simon will be preaching and concluding his series on the story of Joseph. This week's sermon is titled "Three Tears For Joseph" and will go over Genesis chapter 50. Pastor Steve Carlson will be leading worship and Robin Shea will have special music.

We will also welcome Peter Nielsen into membership at The Place as he is being baptized along with other members of his 8th grade class this Saturday night at La Crescenta church.

We invite you to come before church services and attend one of our many Sabbath School classes. We have cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, youth and adult Sabbath school classes that meet every Sabbath morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. The adult Sabbath school class is lead by Elder Rob Randall and meets in the main sanctuary.

We also invite your continued financial support of the ministry of The Place. You may continue to return your tithes and offerings on-line at www.theplacechurch.com or by clicking on the link.

Also, if you have specific prayer requests, our prayer team would love the opportunity to lift you and your prayer requests up to God. Our prayer team meets each Sabbath at 9:45 a.m. to pray for our church and for special requests. We would love for you to join us in prayer in the junior/earliteen room. God bless.

Church Fellowship Luncheon This Sabbath
You are invited to our monthly fellowship luncheon THIS coming Sabbath, May 17th following church services at The Place. This month's theme is general so anything you love to cook will be greatly appreciated.

We want to stress what a blessing this time is together not only as a church family but also as a ministry to those who are visiting. We encourage all of you to take some time out of your busy schedule and prepare anything you would like (it doesn't have to be fancy) because every little bit helps. We also want to invite anyone who feels moved to come early and help set up or to stay late and help with the clean up...this is a community effort. We thank Ileana so much for all she does every month as Fellowship Luncheon Coordinator and to the many others who also make it possible to have a church luncheon. We look forward to eating and fellowshipping with you.

Chile Mission Trip Fund Raising
We are planning our annual mission trip for this August and there is still ROOM for you! This year we are building a church outside the town of San Felipe, about 50 miles north of Santiago in Chile, from August 6-18. We have made plane reservations…and need to give a $100 deposit for each seat. Due to higher airline costs the total cost for the trip is around $1600. But, we are going to be fundraising as a church to help cover those costs. We need a few more people to come and help us accomplish our project. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pastor Simon. Here are some of the fundraising ideas we need your support with:

This Sabbath we will begin building our "Lego Church." This church represents the one we are building in Chile...and we need your support. We invite you to buy a brick or several bricks...each brick is $1 and we have 3,000 bricks to sell. These bricks will be available in the lobby.

Garage Sale:
Don't forget to bring any items you may have for the garage sale each Sabbath for Donna Goldman. She is also willing to pick-up if needed. Her contact number is 805/407-9535
Donna will be out of town May 31st. She is collecting through June 15th.
