The Scoop at The Place - June 12, 2008

This Week At The Place/Happy Father's Day
We look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath at The Place. We want to wish all of the Dads at The Place a very special and happy Father's Day. We hope that you all get the opportunity to spend it with your families.

This Sabbath Pastor Simon will continue with the fourth sermon in his new series on a "summer fling with Jesus." His sermon is titled "The Call" which focuses on John 1:35-51. Pastor Steve will be leading worship and there will be special music by Mary Jane Kupu. We also hope that you'll stay following church services as our cafe will be open with snacks and refreshments.

We invite you to come before church services and attend one of our many Sabbath School classes. We have cradle roll, kindergarten, primary, junior/earliteen, youth and adult Sabbath school classes that meet every Sabbath morning beginning at 10:30 a.m. The adult Sabbath school class is lead by Elder Rob Randall and meets in the main sanctuary.

Also, if you have specific prayer requests, our prayer team would love the opportunity to lift you and your prayer requests up to God. Our prayer team meets each Sabbath at 9:45 a.m. to pray for our church and for special requests. We would love for you to join us in prayer in the junior/earliteen room. God bless.

Hospital Ministry This Sabbath Afternoon

We are planning our annual mission trip for this August and there is still ROOM for you! This year we are building a church outside the town of San Felipe, about 50 miles north of Santiago in Chile, from August 6-18.

But, we need your help with the costs! Here are a few fundraising ideas we need your support with:

Building our "Lego Church". This church represents the one we are building in Chile...and we need your support. We invite you to buy a brick or several bricks...each brick is $1 and we have 3,000 bricks to sell. These bricks will be available in the lobby.

Garage Sale:
Don't forget to bring any items you may have for the garage sale each Sabbath for Donna Goldman. Our Garage Sale Fund Raiser is tentatively scheduled for the 19th of July and Donna will be accepting donations until then. However, Donna's truck is currently in the shop, so we are in need of someone who has a truck that would be able to pick up large items to be sold at the sale. If you are able to help, please contact Donna or Pastor Simon. You can reach Donna @ 805/407-9535 or Pastor Simon @ 805/498-2300.

Outback Luncheon June 29th: We need you to get your TICKETS NOW!! Donna Goldman and Solomon Faka will have tickets available each Sabbath or you may contact Donna at 805/407-9535 to have tickets mailed. The cost is $10.00 per person. We have added TWO vegetarian options so you now have a choice of vegetarian pasta w/alfredo sauce or a Boca Burger; a chicken breast sandwich; or an Outback burger with Aussie fries and a soft drink or coffee. ALL OF THE MONIES FROM THIS LUNCHEON WILL GO TO US. Please sign up and invite your friends and neighbors...it is a great chance to support the mission of The Place and invite your friends to get to know us!

Gift Raffle:
We are also selling tickets for a chance to win any one of a number of wonderful gifts we have had donated. We can always use more gifts. If you have a favorite restaurant or any type of business you frequent please ask if they would be willing to donate items or gift certificates.

Thanks To The Nominating Committee/New Baptismal Class
The Nominating Committee is finishing their work for all the various ministries at The Place. We will have a tentative report this Sabbath at The Place. We invite you to go over it and make sure you are signed up in the right places. Or if you would like to be involved in any area, we would love to hear from you! You can see from our list that many of you are blessing us with your time and energy! Thanks so much.

Also, we are starting a new baptismal class this Sabbath at 10:15 a.m. in the Sabbath School wing. If you are interested in studying for baptism or have questions about what Seventh-day Adventists believe, we would love to have you join us. Pastor Simon and Bill Werner will be facilitating. Contact Pastor Simon with any questions.

Upcoming Social Events - Dodgers game next Sunday

July 3d, Thursday night, we are planning our annual outing to the Hollywood Bowl for their Fouth of July Spectacular @ 7:30 p.m. Besides the beautiful music and fireworks there will be a celebration of the LA Dodgers 60th anniversary in Los Angeles. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for kids.

July 25 - Mercy Me and The David Crowder Band will be at the Santa Barbara County Bowl on Friday, July 25th at 6:30pm (plan to arrive by 5:45 due to parking). Tickets are $40 each (with venue fees included). To sign up or for more info email Dawn Lyman at dawnlyman@gmail.com.

May Finances
We invite your continued financial support of the ministry of The Place. During May we received $14,966 in tithe (which all goes to the So. Cal. Conference); and $10,806 in giving to our local church budget. This gives us a total for 2008 of $59,838 in tithe...leaving us about $5000 behind last year at this time.
We have had a total of $51,760 given towards our local church budget. This also leaves us about $5,000 behind last year at this time. BUT, it leaves us well behind our church budget needed. Our monthly church budget, including for Pastor Steve, is around $17,500 a month, or $82,725 for the year. So, you can see we are slightly more than $30,000 behind our church budget for this year. We need your faithful giving.

You may continue to return your tithes and offerings on-line at www.theplacechurch.com or by clicking on the link. We realize that life is difficult for many of our members, and want to let you know we are praying for you. We believe God will continue to bless you in your faithfulness!
