The Scoop at The Place - July 3, 2008
This Week at The PlaceHappy Fourth of July! We hope that you and your loved ones have a wonderful Independence Day celebrating our country and the freedom we enjoy. We look forward to celebrating our country and the freedom we have in Jesus with you this coming Sabbath at The Place. This Sabbath Pastor Steve will be preaching and continuing the sermon series "A Summer Fling with Jesus" with his sermon titled "What Would My Friends Think?" There will be a drama by Walter Hamlin, a special music by Pastor Steve, Dan Hartman and Ken Adams. Chad Reisser will be leading worship.
Visitor Luncheon This Sabbath
There will be a visitor luncheon this coming Sabbath at Ron & Patti Fausset's home in Thousand Oaks. We invite all visitors and new members to attend. Of course all members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. The luncheon will take place following church services. The Fausset's are located at 1827 Summer Cloud Drive in Thousand Oaks. Directions will be available in the lobby this Sabbath.
Youth & Young Adult Stuff
Youth Stuff:
Weekly Wednesday night meetings at NPAA (in Pastor Steve's old classroom) @ 7 p.m.
Weekly Sabbath School at The Place @ 10:30 a.m.
July 11 - Next Friday - Beach Game Day @ 4pm followed by a meal,vespers, and the baptism of Sinahy Fuentes starting @ 6:30 p.m. This will be at ZUMA BEACH...right by the volleyball courts at the south end of the beach.
July 19 - House Party at the Gaine's home in Simi Valley.
Young Adult Stuff:
Weekly small group on Tuesdays @ The Carlson's at 7:30 p.m.
July 5 - THIS SATURDAY night -Young Adult party @ the Carlson's @ 8pm (bring your favorite snack). There will be food, games, a movie.
July 12 - Outdoor movie and meal in Hollywood (details to come).
Chile Mission Trip Fund Raising
We want to thank all of you who participated in our Outback luncheon last week. We were able to raise over $2200 for our mission trip to Chile next month. If you have not been able to get involved and would like to help, we still have our raffle and garage sale that are coming up.
Lego church:
Each Sabbath we continue building our "Lego Church" representing the church we are building in Chile. We invite you to buy a brick or several bricks in the lobby after church...each brick is $1.
Garage Sale:
Don't forget to bring any items you may have for the garage sale Donna Goldman will have. She is willing to pick-up if needed. Her contact number is 805/407-9535. She is collecting through July 19th.
Gift Raffle:
We are selling tickets for a chance to win many wonderful gifts we have had donated. If you have a favorite restaurant or any type of business you frequent please ask if they would be willing to donate items or gift certificates.
New Church Officers/Special Dedication Sabbath next week
Next Sabbath, July 12th, we will be celebrating our new church officer year by introducing our new church officers. Pastor Simon will have a special sermon presenting our Vision for The Place and our local community and inviting your commitment. Our new Church Officer list is ready will be available in the lobby this Sabbath for your perusal. However, it's never too late to get involved. If you are interested in some area of ministry, please see Pastor Simon.
New Scoop Format
If you haven't noticed yet, we now have a new scoop format. However, you will still be able to click onto the links that you had in the former scoop, including the link to prayer and for our on-line donation of tithes and offerings. We hope that you'll log on to get "The Scoop" each week...and invite a friend to sign up at www.theplacechurch.com.
Beach Vespers Next Friday
We will have a beach vespers next Friday night, July 11th at Zuma Beach starting at 6:30 p.m.(following the youth beach time.) During our vespers, Sinahy Fuentes will be baptized by Pastor Steve. Come and enjoy the dinner, worship and baptism. If possible, please bring some food to share. Please stay tuned for the exact location next week, but it will be close to the volleyball courts at the south end of Zuma Beach.
Upcoming Social/Concert
On July 25th, Mercy Me and The David Crowder Band will be at the Santa Barbara County Bowl at 6:30pm. Tickets are $40 each. Please contact Dawn Lyman if you would like to go at dawnlyman@gmail.com.
