The Scoop at The Place - July 31, 2008
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath at The Place. Pastor Simon will continue his series on a summer fling with Jesus. This week's sermon is titled "You're Weird" and focuses on Luke 8:40-56. Pastor Steve will be leading worship and there will be special music by Ashley Peterson. There will also be a children's story given by Brian and Christina and a surprise drama.
We also invite you to Sabbath school starting at 10:30 a.m. We have several classes ranging from cradle roll class to adult classes. We have something for everyone! We hope you’ll stop by and be blessed.
Our prayer committee meets every Sabbath morning starting at 9:45 a.m. to pray for individual as well as community needs. If you are interested, please join us this Sabbath.
And, your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. We thank you for your faithfulness in giving. You can return your tithes and offerings at The Place or by clicking on the link provided.
Beach Vespers This Friday
It's summer time and that means we get to enjoy one Friday night a month at the beach! We hope that you will join our beach vespers this Friday, August 1st. Our evening will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Sycamore Cove. Come and enjoy a wonderful time at the beach complete with a beautiful sunset, dinner, worship and time in the word. Pastor Steve will be leading praise, and Pastor Simon will lead out in worship. Please feel free to bring a dish to share if you would like...but, come anyways!
Visitor Luncheon This Sabbath
We will have our visitor's luncheon this coming Sabbath. This month's hosts are Deanne and Elvina Wolcott. We hope that all visitors and new members (as well as others if you just need some company) will come for lunch and an opportunity to better acquaint themselves. All church members are welcome, we just ask that you bring food to share. The Wolcott's are located at 3216 Casino Drive in Thousand Oaks. Directions will be available this Sabbath.
Chile Mission Trip
There will be a special dedication service held this coming Sabbath for all of the volunteers going on this year's mission trip to Chile. The mission trip volunteers are scheduled to depart from Los Angeles next Wednesday night, August 6th and will arrive on Monday evening, August 18th. We will be praying over all volunteers and dedicating this mission at Church this Sabbath. Also, following our service, we will have the drawing of the tickets for our raffle winners in the cafe. So, you will have one more chance to financially support this mission this Sabbath at The Place.

Community Service & Relay For Life
TOO MUCH FRUIT? Are you experiencing an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables growing in your yard right now? So much so, that you’re not sure what to do with it all? Manna Food Bank would love to receive some of your bounty. Bring your fruit and vegetables to church THIS SABBATH, August 2, and we will deliver them to Manna. There will be a box by the door. Thank you!
The Place is excited to once again be participating in our local Relay for Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Come join us for this exciting 24 hour outreach/fundraising event on October 4 and 5. The relay is to raise money for cancer treatment, research and advocacy.
