The Scoop at The Place - October 16, 2008
This Week At The PlaceWe look forward to seeing you this coming Sabbath at The Place. This Sabbath Pastor Steve will be preaching. He will continue with the series called "Don't Worry, Be Happy". This week's sermon is focused on Acts 27 and talks about our perspective. We look forward to having Dean Palacio lead us in praise and worship as well as special music by Pastor Steve and Tega Faka. We will also welcome Jeff and Jennifer Simafranca and Dylan Vessels into our membership pending their baptisms following church.
We also invite you to Sabbath school starting at 10:30 a.m. We have several classes ranging from cradle roll class to adult classes, including a new adult Sabbath School class for new believers as well as those wishing to refresh on Christian doctrines and teachings. We have something for everyone! We hope you’ll stop by and be blessed.
Our prayer committee meets every Sabbath morning starting at 9:45 a.m. to pray for individual as well as community needs. If you are interested, please join us this Sabbath.
And, your tithes and offerings are always a blessing. We thank you for your faithfulness in giving. You can return your tithes and offerings at The Place or by clicking on the link provided.

The Place Big Give Challenge
Four weeks ago we challenged members at The Place with an offer of $100 as “seed money” to use in our community. This is an opportunity for us to be creative and make a difference. The money is to be used to either begin something new in our community or as seed money to make more money for a charity or need in our community or around the world. 3 people have taken us up on the offer. Brice Peterson and family are collecting used Bibles for Africa; Crystal Moon is selling cookies to raise money for Children at Simi Valley Hospital, and Denise Ramirez and family are raising money for a camp that gives disadvantaged kids a chance to ride horses. If you have ideas, please talk to Pastor Simon if you are ready for your $100!! Just think BIG!!

Daily Walk with God
Once a month we are going to share something from the devotional life of one of The Placers to encourage and inspire us. Here is an excerpt from Arla Caraboolad's testimony (she will share some more this Sabbath...) "Being naturally of a difficult, fearful temperament, I need to get myself straightened out every morning before I’m fit to be around people. I learned a long time ago that time with God was not an option for me. For 30 years I’ve been writing my prayers. It started during a divorce when I couldn’t even focus. At one point I pushed it up to three hours a day—nothing got me down for long then. It was a discipline I wanted in my life. For a few years it receded into 15 minutes, but I got so hungry for it that I went back to my discipline of an hour a day. Discipline is not a legalistic term; I vary what I do, and He does too. But I can tell you that even though I talk to Him all day, I couldn’t get by without that special one to one time...My world can get a little crazy so I’ve asked God to wake me up at 5 a.m. to spend two hours with Him. If I wake up at 4 a.m., I’m learning to get up and go to the living room breathe, pray, and write. I figure He knows what the day is going to bring, and if I need an extra hour then it’s probably more important than sleep.

There will be a sign up sheet this Sabbath. Hope to see you all there.

We have groups in Camarillo, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, Westlake, Simi Valley and Woodland Hills. Card Ministry - want to be part of this new ministry?
This week we have been surrounded by Firemen and Women working to keep our homes safe and doing their best to save our countryside. Wouldn't it be great to send them a THANK YOU card letting them know that their hard work is appreciated! There are many in old age homes who would enjoy receiving a card from The Place, just letting them know that we are thinking of them. We all celebrate birthdays and what a blessing it is when a new baby is born. We are looking forward to expanding our Card Ministry at The Place and letting the community know that we care. If you would like to be a part of THE CARD ministry at The Place and have some ideas that you would like to have implemented please contact either Pastor Simon or Vivienne to let them know that you would be willing to help.
E-mail addresses are: Simonliversidge@hotmail.com and vivlans@yahoo.com.
