The Scoop at The Place - February 17th, 2005

This Week At The Place
Pastor Simon will be preaching at The Place this Sabbath. He is continuing his series on the book of Hebrews, with chapter 4. The title of Pastor Simon's sermon is "God Gives Us Rest Today".

Before the sermon, an interactive children's story will be given by Taryl Cordone and Jacquie Randall.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m.

Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Training class at 10:30 a.m. located in the Prayer Room. The class is going over the book "Purpose Driven Life". This week the class will be going over chapters 10 & 11.

The final copy of The Place Directory will be available this Sabbath. Be sure to pick up your copy in the lobby. We hope you make good use of all the phone numbers and email addresses!

Baptism This Sabbath
Meaghan Quilop will be baptized this Sabbath. Meg and her husband, Greg, have been attending The Place for some time and are active in Praise and Worship and Creative Worship. We are so excited to welcome her into our church family and we look forward to welcoming her friends and family who will be attending this Sabbath to witness her continuing commitment to God.

Gardens Of The World-Cancelled
Our next social which is due to take place this Sabbath has been cancelled due to rainy weather. But, for those of you who planned on attending, know that we plan on meeting for lunch at a nearby restaurant after church. Please stay tuned for more details this Sabbath and we look forward to fellowshipping with you.

The Place Is Moving...Soon!
Effective April 1st, The Place Fellowship will be moving to The Vineyard Community Church located at (right around the corner) 2397 Lavery Court, Suite #17. We look forward to the larger facilities, and the monthly luncheons in our new fellowship hall. We will keep all of you informed as we get closer to moving day, but we invite you all to keep this move in your prayers.

Got Group???
We are into the second month of the new year and God has been blessing our small groups. Groups have been growing in number and in spirit and if you have not yet joined one, we invite you to sign up to be part of a small group. Make 2005 a year of community and fellowship as you embark on a special journey of communing with Christ.

Financial Update For January
Here is the Fnancial Update for January, 2005. We would like to thank you all for your continued support of the ministry of OUR church. God is blessing your faithfulness.:
Tithe: $12, 719
Local Giving: Church Budget - $5,574
Total Local Giving - $6,468. (Our monthly church budget is $8,574...so, we appreciate your faithfulness as you give to The Place.)
We also wanted to let you know that during January, you donated $936 towards Tsunami Relief. These funds have been passed on to ADRA for their work in Southeast Asia. Thank you again for blessing many people in need.

Mission Project
We are exploring the possibility of doing a mission project in Mexico in June and a Maranatha project overseas later this year, possibly in Peru. We would like to know who is interested before committing to the projects. There will be a sign-up sheet this Sabbath for people who are potentially interested. This is not a final commitment, merely an indication of your interest! We are excited about the possibilities for mission and to see God working in us and through us.

Calling All Wild At Heart Men
Pastor Simon is inviting all of the men out there who are interested in doing something active (i.e. playing football and/or basketball) to meet next Sunday, February 27th starting at 10 a.m. at the park on Wendy Drive. (Directions will be available next week.) There will be a time of prayer and sharing followed by a time of loud, boisterous, hair raising sporting fun, concluding with lunch out for all those interested. The Place Is Moving
Effective April 1st, The Place Fellowship will be moving to The Vineyard Community Church located at (right around the corner) 2397 Lavery Court, Suite #17. We look forward to enjoying the larger facilities, beautiful children's Sabbath school rooms, and cafe for the java and of course, our monthly fellowship luncheons.

This Week at The Place
Elder Leclare Litchfield will be preaching this Sabbath at The Place. Elder Litchfield is a chaplain at Collegedale Academy in Tennessee and is the featured speaker for Week of Prayer.

Elder Rob Randall will be leading out in the adult Sabbath School that meets in the sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. Adult Sabbath School will be going over Acts chapter 2.

Pastor Simon will be leading out in the Discipleship Training class located in the Prayer Room. The class is going over the book The Purpose Driven Life. This week, the class will be going over chapters 8 & 9.

Friday Night Vespers With Dr. Appel
Dr. James Appel will be presenting vespers at The Place Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Friday night February 11 at 7:00pm.

James is the Doctor and Chief Administrator of Bere Adventist Hospital in Tchad, Africa. His struggles and letters home have ignited a groundswell of donations and activism and rekindled a flame of service in many readers. Most notable is a 40-foot container filled with over $100,000.00 in medical goods raised by lay-people that left California on January 27 to Tchad, and a mission trip of fifteen leaving in March. We hope you can attend.

Baby Dedication-This Sabbath
This Sabbath there will be a baby dedication for Liam Alec Liversidge. Liam's grandfather, Elder Bill Liversidge, will be dedicating him to the Lord. There will also be a special musical presentation for this celebration. Pastor Simon and Cecilia Liversidge invite you to share this special day with them.

Valentines Dinner Celebration-This Sunday
You and your sweetheart are invited to attend our annual Valentine's Dinner....but hurry and make the date because time is running out. The celebration will be held THIS Sunday, February 13th in The Palm Garden Hotel in Newbury Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. There will be a cost for each couple, but, it will be well worth it. Please be sure to give your money to Denise Ramirez BY THE 12TH(THIS SABBATH) to reserve your place. Look for the sign up sheet in the lobby, this is sure to be a wonderful date!

Church Fellowship Luncheon & Social @ Gardens Of The World
Our next social and fellowship luncheon is planned for next Sabbath, February 19th after church at The Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks. Bring your favorite food, blankets, and lawn chairs for fun and fellowship Sabbath afternoon. Admission and parking is free. The Gardens are located at 2001 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd, Parking is available behind the Resource Center or on T.O. Blvd.

The Scoop at The Place - February 3rd, 2005

This Week at The Place

Monthly Food Drive-This Sabbath
.." The kind of fasting that I seek for you is for you to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter-when you see the naked to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood" Isaiah 58:6,7.
This coming Sabbath is our monthly food drive. After the holidays, there are less food donations, but the needs have not changed. We continue to donate the food to Ventura County Food Share. They have very much appreciated the donations that The Place has given. Some of the families that receive food every month have babies and young children. These families are in need of diapers and baby wipes. Every month the Ventura County Food Share provides meals to children, families and the elderly. There will be a box by the door for your donations. If you, your family, or someone you know needs food assistance, please contact Pastor Simon.


Hospitality Meeting-This Sabbath
Attention all visitors (or anyone looking to meet a few new people)!! This Sabbath, the hospitality team will be putting on a family styled lunch for you to come, enjoy, and fellowship at the Lemasters home. The Lemasters are located at 2091 Fernwood Court in Simi Valley, home phone # is (805) 526-4182. Directions will be available in the lobby this Sabbath.

Super Bowl Party-This Sunday
What better excuse for a get together than the super bowl? This Sunday, February 6th, Ken & April Fowler will host a super bowl party. The festivities will start at 3 p.m. Food will be provided but we encourage you to sign up in the lobby to bring more. Please let us know if you will be attending by signing up in the lobby. If you have any questions, contact April Fowler at (805) 523-8489. The Fowlers are located at 12622 Hillside Drive in Moorpark. Directions will be available this Sabbath in the lobby.

Valentines Dinner Celebration

Friday Night Vespers-February 11th
On Friday night, February 11th we will be having an intimate vespers to welcome newlyweds James and Sarah Appel. James and Sarah got married in Denmark over the holidays and he is already back in surgery in Tchad. James will be sharing about the past year spent in Tchad, Africa as a missionary doctor. We encourage you to come and support them. Log on to www.berehospital.org for James Appel's latest letter describing his marriage in Denmark and link to the pictures. Also, you may read the story on all the medical equipment that left this week.
